VesselView Mobile provides Mercury Marine SmartCraft® engine owners with the ability to view live engine data, monitor fuel usage, obtain detailed descriptions when a fault occurs and receive maintenance alerts when due. The full functionality of the app is available when used in conjunction with the Bluetooth Low Energy VesselView Mobile module. This app collects and shares your precise geolocation. When the app is open and connected to your vessel it requires a continuous connection and therefore may impact the battery life of your device. Without the module, users still have access to a speedometer tool, a map with POIs, the ability to capture moments with the location tagged, plus other useful features. Mercury Marine’s VesselView Mobile app also provides users with a Web-based account.

Better, but not great
The latest update has broken the speedometer. It fluctuates randomly 2-4 mph and sometimes registers zero mph even at full throttle.
Another nice feature would be a choice of black on white background for better legibility during daylight hours.

I just installed the app and while I don’t have enough experience with it to provide much feedback I would like to request one feature. I would like the ability to log maintenance items that are not included in the small list of options. Possibly user defined maintenance categories - like replace bellows, gimbal bearings, fuel lines, spark plug wires, etc.

Great App!
I got this app with my new boat a few weeks ago and it’s been fantastic so far. I was a little leery that it was going to drain my phone battery to leave it running all day while I was out on the water, but the app developers have done an excellent job in managing features vs battery load. It’s great to be able to send the info to my dealer, who helps me monitor service and maintenance needs. It’s a great app!

Still some stuff I would like to see, but ver 1.9 is great!
I would still like to see any data parameter selectable for the main screen. Some of the parameters such as mpg are a couple of layers deep.
Now to some compliments. Version 1.9 was a big update. To heck with using this on my iPhone, this is now really cool on an iPad. I use an iPad mini.
You can use the built in iOS map app on one side and Vessel View on the other using split screen. Both apps have to support split screen for this to work. Other apps such as Navionics Boating do not support split screen, but you can use iOS slide over to put show Vessel View on about a third of the screen over such an app as Boating. You can do a search to find out the difference between slide over and split screen and how to use them.
If you try this on an iPad, consider the following: The cellular iPads have GPS already built in and are ideal. However, you can get a Bluetooth GPS such as the Garmin GLO or Bad Elf to give a non-cellular iPad GPS capability.

Why won’t my iPhone XR connect after the last update???
Generally has been a good product. But the latest update won’t connect to my iPhone XR. My other blue tooth devices work fine.
It will connect to my daughters iPhone 8.
Added 14 July: followed the developers advice, and received this back
“Sometimes during application updates iPhones can corrupt the information stored in them for the device they are trying to connect to. I have found luck in downloading a free app called LightBlue. It is in the app store. Once you download this app, turn the key on so the module powers up. Go into LightBlue and locate the module in there, and connect to it. Once LightBlue has established a connection close out of this app. Now try it with VVM. I have found that by interrogating the device with an outside Bluetooth scanner app like LightBlue it fixes the information between the two.”
I followed these directions and it worked like a champ. Completely solved my problem. Thanks!

Cool but...
This product looks cool easy to install lots of info BUT customer service doest seem like they listen to their customers.. people have been requesting landscape mode... all I see from the developer is it will be in future releases .. I was reading reviews from 2 years ago so where is it? Something so simple.... I think I’ll hold off on this

I’ve been using vesselview mobile for over a year and have been patiently waiting for the landscape feature to be added. Developers please come through, a lot of customers are waiting on this.

Great App but need some improvements
Hi I bought the mobile VesselView for the IOS and it would be more comfortable to rotate the screen in the IPAD version. Also it would be a nice update to see graphic instruments beside just numbers.
And an important update it would be to have support split screen for Ipad. So we can see Navionics maps and Vessel View on the same screen.
The App works perfect.

Great Upgrade to my Sea Ray
Mercury Vessel View is a fabulous upgrade to my 2001 Sea Ray with twin 8.1L Horizon engines. It was easy to install and really helps me monitor the various condition of the engines. RPM, oil pressure and temp, water temp and psi, fuel consumption, etc...
Makes my analogue gauges obsolete. I am very happy with the product. Works very well.

Don’t leave the ramp without this.
I’ve had this on the boat since it first came out and I am very pleased with the information it provides. Love the fact that I can move it to another engine if needed. Also the colors from dark to light are great for seeing at high speed runs (70+mph). The main things that I focus on are h2o pressure, h2o temp and hours on the engine. Bottom line well worth the money.
Would like to see a tuner mode add on. Be nice to touch a couple buttons and go from gas safer mode to go fast mode. Thanks.

Stopped working
App loads up on my phone but can’t find the device. Device can be discovered on iPad and other phones but something has caused it to fail on the phones that are out with it most

Must have!
We bought a brand new mercury 4 stroke last spring and bought the vessel view from dealer. Used boat all season using app with no problems. Very easy to use and realized analog tach was 200 rpms off.

When it works it’s great
I love this app, but...
1) it struggles to maintain connected
2) does not auto reconnect (which seems like something any developer worth his/her weigh would understand as a dealbreaker)
3) MPG never seems to work
Fix these issues and it’d be five stars for me

Even after the newest update the auto connect works randomly. Would really like to see the troll control option available.

Add in more features Smart Craft has. Especially wake/surf/toe related
Would like to see a complete set of features available in Vessel View for the App. Cruise control would actually work on this. Especially tow features. Accelerate curves, top speed limits (especially in tenths mph for surfing), Cruise. Hey, why not full auto pilot? And troll control. With larger iPhone, or a iPad these would work great and made to be safe.
In the future, Remote Boat control! Launch control Drive it right off the trailer, park. And vice verse. For a single person launching (or recovering) boat this would be valuable (especially with other people who can tie or hold a boat, but not drive either boat or tow vehicle. In the meantime, please add all the other Smart Craft and Vessel View features.

Would be five stars if...
Works ok. As others have said, landscape is a must. It’s hard to believe that over 2 years into this and you haven’t got that figured out.
Also the remaining fuel on board needs to be broken down it tenths. When I (and I’m sure others) add fuel, it’s not always exactly whole gallons. If I go to add fuel to the remaining total, I can only add whole gallons. This seems to be an easy fix and I can’t believe someone hasn’t brought this up yet.

Won’t open on my iPhone
If I could I’d give this app less than one because all it’s doing is taking up space on my phone. Tried to report the issue using the support link but that take u to the website where there isn’t an option for app support. Spent money to get this crap installed for nothing.

Piece of mind
I bought the VVM for my new boat mainly for maintenance and early notifications of engine faults. If there is one thing I would like to have it do is store more data for use in offline mode. I would like to know the actual engine hours without having to connect for live data. Seems like this would be a simple addition. Unless I missed it somewhere.

Great engine module, app needs some work
As others have said it’s a must have for the app to switch between portrait and landscape mode. Adding digital trim support would also be welcomed. Also why must you manually connect, all other Bluetooth devices connect as soon as they are detected/in range? If these could be implemented this would easily be a 5 star app.

Link Great, design & graphics poor
Like having engine data access but set up and design is rudimentary. Cannot rotate screen to landscape which is the way my tablet is mounted, cannot read inputs (e.g. oil temp, volts, etc) as font too small and gray, cannot design gauges, clusters, etc. Really a very basic program that needs a serious facelift. Suggest programmers look at OBD Fusion to get some ideas as to what is possible.

Faria who??
I find this app to be very useful as the information it provides is much more accurate than my Faria gauges. I am connected to a Mercury MAG 350 MPI (2007). For those with older engines like mine, some of the SmartCraft data is not available so you will get fault code notifications to service engine. However, as long as you are seeing the correct information via the analog gauges, you can block the faults and the app ignores them. I had to block "pitot pressure" for speed (speed on my boat is measured from the lower unit and displays via the analog gauge; but, speed does still show on the app via GPS), "level sensor tank A" (no fuel 'sensor' in my tank), and "engine or drive trim position". The departure and winterization checklists are handy as well. It has its downsides, but I believe the positives far outweigh the negative-as mentioned in the other reviews. Look forward to future improvements and capabilities!

Nice to have
While this a good app there are some things to make it great needed. It really needs troll control, that is must have when you are trolling in a windy place like Colorado mountain lakes. The other is auto roll so the display can be rotated for easy viewing when on the boat dash. Other than these two things, I can live with this. It’s nice to know when to change oil, and the other info. Then I would give it a true 5 stars.

This app is great. I wish it stored some data so that I don't have to be connected to know some of the stats. It would be especially useful to have fuel level available on my local device. Thanks!

Works great when it's not crashing
Use it with a 2017 75hp four stroke, iPad mini 2 10.3.3. When it works, it's great to have tach, fuel, temp and speed, since my boat only came with speed and volts (really?). I don't have an iPad with gps, but miles till empty and speed will be a great addition.
My biggest gripe is it crashes. All the time. It works well for a few hours, but once it starts, it happens more frequently. It's also very clumsy to get it going again under way. I shouldn't have to select which Bluetooth adapter I need, and then when I do, I shouldn't have to hit connect again to make it work.
Last time I took my boat out, it would crash and never reopen, even after force quitting. The only way to get it to work again was to delete the app and re-download it, which is nearly impossible on the water. The app seems to have a memory leak, please fix it, it has the potential to be an awesome product. One last thing, add 0.1 gallon reading for boats with smaller tanks and engines.

Cool app: needs more gauges
So you need a fairly expensive hardware dongle type thing to make this work. Self installation is fairly straight forward if you are comfortable with that type of thing. If you are not comfortable and have lots of money I am sure a boat shop will be happy to remove some money from your wallet for the install.
I installed this under the outboard cowling and zip tied it up in a safe spot. Range is fantastic on the device. Greater than 30 feet away.
On to the app: Mercury please PLEASE add more gauges to this app. Some that come to mind are: Fuel flow, oil pressure, oil temperature, water pressure, exhaust temperature, trim angle, and manifold pressure. I am SURE all of those are available via the CAN bus.
Otherwise the app is good. Pairs fast, has some interesting data, engine hours and maintenance counters are nice. Just wish it had a ton more data like what you can get with a scan gauge.
Mercury if you don't want to do the work then expose the API for this so third parties can write a more functional app.

It's Voodoo Time
I've been using this now for 6 months on my own boat an I love it 👌. It works so good that I even use it on my customers boats when we go do a sea trial. I recommend it to everyone . Needs more
Great app and nice to have smartcraft info for half the price but I'm disappointed there's no water pressure display. I have a gauge in dash for that but I was under the impression from the Mercury rep that water pressure was included in the mobile app. It's being sent by smartcraft so why not include it in the mobile app?

Installation and use
I have this hooked to a single Verado. Installation was a breeze. The app was easy to connect and it provides good info. However, I was looking for more and hoping it would display more that is being sent to Smartcraft gauges. The capability is certainly there. Also, the website still isn't up. I'm hoping some Mercury updates will allow me to give it five stars in the future.
