Current is a smart debit card and app for families that helps teens learn to spend, save and give. Track spending, automate savings, and easily give to the local or national cause of your choice.
Individuals can also use Current for transparent spending between family and friends.
All transactions via the iOS app are private (there’s no public feed).
This app may use your location even when it isn’t open, which can decrease device battery life.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

This is the first review I have ever written for an app, and my phone has at least 100 of them. In short, it doesn’t work. It took me OVER A WEEK to link my bank account, and required two phone calls to Current in order to do so. After it looked like I had finally got it linked up, I tried to transfer $20 from my “wallet” into my son’s account. The app froze and wouldn’t let me continue. It’s the worst example of technology I’ve ever witnessed. Save yourself the headache!

I got the card for my son to learn to manage money in the soon to be cashless society. For that, it works great. Transfers are easy and seamless. He doesn’t get paid for chores, but can earn extra cash by doing ‘add-ons’ and this app makes it easy to compensate him for that. The thing I hate, loath actually, are the daily app updates. Why can’t the app have monthly feature releases like many others? Why do I have to updates multiple times a week? For that reason, if there is a better service, use it! Don’t get trapped by the constant updates. Yeah, I’m a little OCD, but I feel all the updates would bother anyone!

It’s an amazing app, and I have no problems with it! It works great and has no bugs! The card is excellent quality and looks awesome!! I just wish it was compatible with Apple Pay!!!!!

I thought the idea of this card was great. The reviews are better than the competitor and it cost less. I ordered a card and put an initial $10 on it. Once the card came in the mail, I activated it and submitted a transfer for $200. I got 2 emails the next day (sent within 5 minutes of each other) telling me there was something wrong with my account, and that the transfer failed with no explanation as to why. I tried to login to my account and it tells me it can’t open an account for me because I failed partner verification. What is that?! I already have an account- now it’s unusable. The worst is that support is only through Email- not phone or even online chat. So now I’m waiting for an explanation so my teenager can actually use the card.

Current is a unique offering, and I was initially really excited about it. It worked well enough for a few days until Current terminated our account without warning. Attempts to contact someone were mostly futile and we did not receive any explanation why they closed our account. Beware that there's no number you can call for assistance. We're waiting on $1000 to be returned to us. The scant communication we have received has been rude and unhelpful. Would steer clear of this app until the company matures a bit.

Current is a great app for teenagers, like myself, who want a credit card without having to go through all the hassle of going to a bank. It allows you to see how much money you have and you can transfer money to the account! One thing I will say though, I wish that it took less time to transfer money from a bank account into a Current account. Sometimes I may need money right then and there, but I'm not able to get it because of the time it takes to transfer money. Other than that it's a great app!

And yet another update this week. No way to bypass the updates and not use data. I would rather wait till I have access to wifi but still be able transfer funds or pay for chores completed if needed. It took over 6 weeks to receive the debit card -- After they supposedly mailed it to us twice, to the correct address, they finally expedited one via FedEx (to the same address) and we received it. Definitely issues with their card vendor, many other users have had the same experience. Other than that, the app is a bit buggy but my son loves it and uses it everyday.

This app is a win-win for kids and parents!

I have never written a review for an app before but I really felt compelled to write one for this app. As parents we always have the best of intentions for giving our kids a weekly allowance and spending money for the "extra" chores that come up around the house. The problem was that we never had cash around (we live an hour round trip from a bank). We were thinking about just adding our kids onto our bank account and giving them the money to put on a debit card but I didn't want the hassle of too many accounts linked to our main checking account. So we heard about this new Current app that might help us refine our whole allowance, chore responsibly, and a savings and giving opportunity. It was a little hard to figure out how to set up both kids with two parents but Michele walked us through it. Now our boys have their own Visa debit card which keep track of their spending "wallet", they have a savings "wallet" and a giving "wallet". For an example, I might list in their Current account the lawn needs moved and I am willing to pay $5. Each kids has the opportunity to grab the chore and complete the job. They can put an amount of their spending wallet, add to their savings wallet and put a percentage in their giving wallet which then allows the child to pick a charity to send their money to. Last week one of my boys sent his charity money to the Red Panda Conservation group while the other one sent his donation to NASCAR's Joey Logano Foundation. I can't speak more highly about this app. The communication from the app folks when I had a question is superior. I
know this app has made my life a heck of a lot easier and my kids now have their their money on time and are beginning to develop some very important habits like saving and giving to others.

I never received my debit card and the address was correct. I called twice and they couldn't give me a reason why I don't have it. I asked for a refund and the rep stated she will process the refund.

Already my tween is learning that she must budget better. She also learned that she can't spend what she doesn't have. She always thought a credit or debit card was like magic money. She was embarrassed when she tried to spend more than had on a class field trip to the movies. I love that can set notifications so that I know exactly where she spending and how much. And it's real time.

The incompetence by this company amazes me. My experience is as follows. I got the card for my daughter since she travels back and forth from her mom's house. When she first attempted to use card it denied even though there were funds. Customer service was quick to respond to tell me that they had a credit card processing problem with using the card at Any Walmart. So I have my daughter attempt an ATM, which also declined. I then proceeded to give my daughter cash and I transferred money from Current to my bank. The next day I receive an email saying transfer could not be completed and there was an issue with my card. I contacted customer service who then proceeded to email me that they could no longer service my account, why I have no idea. I responded with its fine that I planned on closing my account anyway since I paid twice for June subscription for a card that did not work, which is another issue. They charged me twice and attempted to charge me more, for monthly service charge, until I contacted customer service to stop charges. Customer service again emailed me saying money would go back to the originating account where it came from. I waited a week and they sent funds back, but they sent them to another account I had listed and not the originating account. They then stated they could reopen my account and withdraw funds from wrong account and redeposit into correct account. The account they closed for no reason when I tried to withdraw funds. If I could post the exact email from this company I would on this rating to show how incompetent they are.

The Chores, savings, and charity features of this card/app are what drew me in. So far, it seems like a great card/app. However, there should be a way to edit the Chores (i.e. change the amount, frequency, etc.). It just has "cancel" as an option, and it's a pain to have to start over each time I want to make a slight change to a chore I've already set up.

For the past several years I've used credit unions student card program. Then I came across Current, Love the Concept and Interface except for one missing feature that my Credit Union has. If it has other funding source options (credit card) besides bank checking account i would've rated 5 Stars.
With credit card its immediate funding transfer and that equals Happy Daughter and Son😊😃
Please make this option available and ratings be better!

The app, along with the service in general, feel like the a Beta version and not a full production ready solution. I have had this card for 2 weeks and had nothing but one bug after the other - and have yet to have a successful transaction. Among the issues experienced in the past 2 weeks: Processing fee charged, but showing as free in the app (company advised this was a bug in the app), recurring transfer being hung up in the system for over 3 days (again blamed on an app bug), inability to link bank accounts in the app for over 24 hours. In addition, face to face transactions are being declined due to an application issue. I would suggest exploring other services until this service has re-tested their entire architecture

I got really excited about this because I've been looking for a way for my 11-year-old to have her own debit card for her allowance. But the app description is misleading with the term "kids"—deep in the fine print I found out the kid has to be 13 years old, same as for a student account at any bank. When she reaches that age, she will get a bank account linked to mine. In the meantime, I'll keep looking for another solution.

I have never written a review before but I hate this app so much that I feel I need to. When it was first released it was horrendous. It has so many bugs that some parts were unusable. I let them know and they said they fixed the bugs but I updated and they were still there. I tried to set up automatic payments but it didn't work because they said I somehow set it so that the money comes from my current wallet not my bank account. I don't even know where the option to change that is! If I didn't have to use this for rent, I'd delete it and be a far happier man.

I've really needed an app like this. The more I use it the more I find uses for it. I've paid my rent in current, split bills, paid dinners/lunches, requested money for gifts, even just sending a little note to someone. The potential of an app like current is huge, I can already see it expanding into various aspects of payments, from in store to international. I'm genuinely excited to see this progress. So far everything has been seamless. The fingerprint log in system is fast, the transfer process from my bank to the app is instant, and sending money is super efficient. I've needed an app like this just to keep track of my expenses. I really don't like to owe someone money, and with current that doesn't ever need to happen again. Great first version, can't wait to see where this goes from here.
