Description

GeoShred Version 2.3, an exciting update to the award-winning GeoShred musical instrument for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, now with MIDI/MPE support. GeoShred, Winner of a 2017 Electronic Musician Editor's Choice Award as “one of the most innovative, groundbreaking products to emerge in the past twelve months”, has been enhanced with unprecedented MIDI/MPE I/O control, new effects, and additional model control parameters.
GeoShred is highly expressive when controlling, and being controlled by, instruments that use the upcoming “MPE” MIDI specification (MIDI Polyphonic Expression). It’s both a powerful synth and a formidable iPad based MIDI/MPE controller!
GeoShred is an expressive musical instrument with a multi-touch performance surface, coupled with an advanced physical model of a guitar. A fusion of Wizdom Music’s Geo Synthesizer user interface (Jordan Rudess), and moForte’s powerful, modeled guitar and effects chain based on the next generation Physical Modeling research of Dr. Julius O. Smith III of Stanford/CCRMA.
With GeoShred’s physical modeling synthesis, you can achieve realistic guitar sounds that bend, stretch and manipulate the sound into endless possibilities. You can explore, edit and control the physics of a guitar model – including solid or hollow body, nylon or metal strings, pick position, harmonics and more.
GeoShred is NOT just another app. GeoShred is a powerful, musical instrument that offers a performance environment on a multi-touch surface unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.
GeoShred Version 2 Features Include:
• A fluidly expressive playing surface + a Physically modeled guitar
• MIDI IN/OUT and MPE support
• MIDI control using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, virtual MIDI and all digital interfaces

Praise for GeoShred
“GeoShred is brilliant- it’s a real instrument.” – Eddie Jobson
“A fantastic new invention which is going to revolutionize the way music is played, expressed and learned! “GeoShred” is one of the foremost best musical inventions I’ve had the pleasure to experience in recent years. Definitely 5 stars out of 5! GIGANTASTIVISSIMO…..R…A…Z !!!!!” – Patrick Moraz
“That’s just nuts. You’re [Jordan] the best-guitarist-without-a-guitar of all time” – Joe Satriani
“GeoShred is a breakthrough [musical instrument] for the iPad. Some might think it’s the best evidence yet that there has indeed been reverse engineering of alien technology, but if that’s the case, then aliens play guitar…and worship Jimi Hendrix.” – Craig Anderton Harmony Central
“Geoshred is a completely innovative music instrument that has become an essential tool for me in both worlds; on stage and in the studio. The quality, flexibility, expressibility and reliability of Geoshred have made it my go-to (and admittedly most used) iOS music app!” – Diego Tejeida, Haken

Fantastic Music Instrument!

Indian music uses extensive pitch bends (called as "gamakas"). In a traditional keyboard with the pitch bend wheel, you have to first set the bend range and then practice bending using the wheel but it is difficult to master the technique as there are hardware limitations. These guys have made it all so simple with this Geoshred app. Just use your finger and slide it to the left or right and it works like a charm! But capturing the bend properly into a DAW and reproducing it seems to be a little more complicated and challenging task. This app transmits using the latest MIDI language spec (MPE) and there is a steep learning curve. It didn't work very well for me. I am still working on understanding it. Overall I think this is the right direction to go in evolving the most awesome, greatest ever music instrument!

A Real Instrument

This app is just good fun, and really makes laying down some soulful riffs easy as pie. I feel like a guitar guru in some cheesy movie when I pull this app out. But it's bada$$. At first I thought the sounds were lacking because I couldn't figure out how to use 90% of them, but it's pushed me to add some interesting soundscapes to my music. Just thinking differently about sounds. So I appreciate that. I use it on almost every jam I work on in my iPad, so get dis $#!+
Especially if you wanna be a riff master. Just look up some scales, they laid out all the chords in a great way for playing scales. Two thumbs up!

The best app I have ever used

I am not usually one to review apps, but Jordan Rudess and Wizdom have created what I consider to be the finest app currently on the AppStore, so I feel obligated to talk about this. GeoShred isn't just some random synth app from the AppStore, but it is a full-fledged instrument. Although it takes a bit of time to properly learn all of the ins and outs of the app, it is ultimately worth it to learn. Because of its wonderful and hearty sound, I had to integrate it with my keyboard setup. Do yourself a service, and get this app!

Shred Champion

It's so much more than just shredding. This app is truly amazing. It IS an instrument. The possibilities are limitless. From soft acoustic to hardcore raunchy metal, you can create and edit all sounds to your liking. It is so easy to record to Garageband, and now that there is MIDI support, this app is unstoppable. Awesome riff creation awaits!

Wow, works on my iPhone too! The MIDI is comprehensive. In, Out, MPE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi. I've just realized that with MIDI, out it's also a great controller. I needed some help and they responded to me right away. Great stuff, keep blowing me away!

Best iOS musical instrument

This is one of the best musical instruments on the iPad and now the iPhone. With the addition of MIDI capabilities it expands the power and capabilities even further.
If you combine this with one of the MIDI USB interface apps on iOS, you can get a seamless low latency connection to you favorite DAW on your computer.
If you need support it is easy to get immediate response and help from the developers.
I highly recommend this app for any musician.

Very Misleading!

I have purchased many Of Jordan's apps in the past. In general, I have been happy with them. Not so with this app. Way over priced for what it offers. In the video demos, Jordan uses three or four sounds. Out of 128 presets, 75% of them are garbage, would never ever use them. I sent two emails to the Geoshred people, and never got a reply. I am extremely unhappy with this app. Save your money! Jordan if you read this, can I get my money back? bcwriter4u

Simply the best instrument app

A truly expressive musical instrument. Makes MIDI apps seem like mere toys. The ridiculous amount of customization and sfx is a black hole of fun. Clearly a work of passion, not profit (but hopefully both). Hoping for MIDI/MPE support soon!

Brilliant App; Gotta Add MIDI

I am a guitar player so the need for getting shred sounds didn't attract me to this app at all. But, what I responded to was the unique and painstaking interface clearly designed with tremendous creative inspiration to function as a new kind of instrument. The sound engine has a great deal of depth for those who want to explore it. Many sounds can approach FM synthesis in addition to distorted and clean guitar sounds.
What really hooked me was the ability to play lines similar to those crafted on keyboards by the great Kit Watkins. Some of the demos reminded me of his fluid and fascinating lines.
It really needs MIDI though. I get that some features such as feedback etc. won't translate, but as a new kind of controller it won't be a finished product IMO until that is added.

BEST APP EVER

Jordan has outdone himself this time with this app IMHO 👍 I have purchased all of his apps with anticipation of something amazing from such a talented musician that he is and have loved each one of them for what they can do.... But this time after discovering so many awesome things that can be done with this app, I am totally blown away. I am a want to be a guitar player who plays keyboards and writes a lot of music but am always wanting to add guitar to my songs which always brings me to the point where I need to get someone interested and playing parts for me. That is great but now I can add some idea's of my own with this app. I am so excited and happy this app is a reality. It works perfect and cannot wait to add some parts to my next song. Thank You Jordan..... You are a genius 👍

A Model Physics App for Music

Only halfway through "All Presets", the timbres are of sixth variety and fidelity, there's way more here than satisfying your heaven metal groove. Get you open mind out and be ready to explore nuances of sonic landscapes where time disappears as each array of instruments brings forth a ground surge of creative motifs and ideas. For me, if in a music store, this would be one of those, "I can't afford it but it will change my life"', as someone kind,y tells me we're closed, and 3 hours has gone by. I've been jammin' and it's a sure sign it will be like that for years.
On the expert side, there are lots of ways to customize sounds, like palming, pick angle, etc. so be prepared. It would be cool to visualize this, but upon hearing you'll have no problem!

This is a real instrument

The level of musical sensitivity and freedom that Geoshred facilitates is truly amazing. I am a guitar player (25 years playing) and this app has improved my lead playing by inspiring me to take different approaches to phrasing and melody, and the physical modeling engine gives many sound and effect options that change the sound in dramatic ways. This is the most expressive interface I have ever seen outside of an actual instrument. Well done!

A spectacular instrument

I play guitar, I play keys.
This is really neither (although fretboard knowledge helps). It's an entirely new instrument using advanced physical modeling synthesis and an ultra expressive 6 "string" style interface.
It won't replace your guitar, it won't replace your synths. It is its own instrument to learn, enjoy and record. I'm surprising quite obsessed with it and I own a ton of iPad music apps.
Definitely a wonderful app and expressive musical experience.

Game-Changing App for Music Playing/Production

This app is fantastic for playing leads and composing, whether or not you are a keyboard player. In fact, it's laid out like a guitar if you want, and is very easy to play.
But the game-changing nature of this app comes from its design. There are so many options and sounds, and it is easy to work with. Very intuitive lay-out. Watching the 8 YouTube tutorials helps (or the longer 30 minute one).
I have a bunch of synth/keyboard apps allowing for easy "scale" playing (and/or chords), and this one tops them all.
5 stars!!

GeoShred is beyond Guitar...

What I particularly like about GeoShred is how you can stretch beyond the standard guitar cliches and really make some wicked sounding stuff.
I made some presets using the Key Num and Key Step feature that really blew by ears out of the water. Look at Twisted Frets for starters. I run on an iPad2 running iOS 9.2 and it’s great.
I heard moForte is working on MIDI support. Once that happens I will explore using GeoShred with Max/MSP

Oh Lord… This is an amazing musical instrument

I was very hesitant about purchasing this app. I owe every good quality synth on the Appstore and then some, including Geo Synth. The latter never impressed me much, though I have to admit that Im not a guitar player. Keyboards, percussion (drums) and wind instruments are my thing. However, having said all that, GeoShred is a completely different beast. This is a true musical instrument. It sounds amazing and it does not compare with Geo Synth at all. It is light years better in terms of sound quality, musicality, playability, effects, etc. Worth every penny. I can easily say that Geo Shred is going to stay on my iPad for a long time. I’m glad I took the risk. Thank you Wizdom Music & MoForte.

A New and Inspiring Instrument

The next evolution of musical creation lies within the touch screen interface. After countless hours of working with GeoShred, I can say that it is a totally new instrument unto itself. The power that this app possesses is unreal. From lightning fast performance response, to limitless control over preset parameters, GeoShred allows you to create sounds and manipulate them in ways that are completely new and inspiring.
Anyone can pick up GeoShred and instantly begin to have fun creating sounds, even with no musical experience at all. For who are familiar with playing an instrument, you will be amazed at the new approach being taken.
Some of the features I find very useful:
- customizing the control surface, allowing ultimate control of the presets you create
- the ability to assign chords to the keys, and the ability to control the "separation time" of each note in the chord (multiple notes of the chord will play when pressing one key)
- being able to change the keyboard notes to show any of 58 different scales and modes
- being able to change the number of "frets" shown on the keyboard layout
- creating alternate tunings for each string
- connecting via bluetooth to an external speaker for amplification
- the arpeggiator
- the ability to assign effect parameters to the X and Y axis of the key you are touching
- easily sharing presets via email, great for instant backup or transferring of presets between iPads
I'm most impressed with two things. First is the touch response. Running on an iPad Air 2, GeoShred is by far the most touch responsive app I've come across. Doing volume swells on the Y axis is a prefect example (starting at the bottom of the key and dragging your finger up to raise the volume of the note). By wiggling your finger at the top of the key you can attain precise vibrato. The expression that can be achieved when combined with delay and reverb sounds wonderful, almost violin-like. When you really want to really light up the iPad, you can fly through scales and insanely fast "two hand tapping" guitar techniques with great ease. So it can shred, and be a beautiful sounding synth. It's all in the touch.
The other aspect that really impresses me are the harmonics that can be created. Both the quality of the sounds produced, and the responsiveness when using the "expression" pad. With the expression pad you can dial harmonics in and out from the notes you are playing, as if controlling guitar feedback. This is great for both fast soloing and slower synth leads. There's also ability to change the bridge on the "guitar" to a sitar or tambura jiva bridge (not sure what that is but it sounds awesome!) By assigning the bridge position to a knob in the control surface, you can hear the amazing harmonic spectrum being achieved. Exactly as if you were moving the bridge or playing open harmonics down a guitar string. You literally hear modulated mute spots until a perfect harmonic of the string is reached! This sounds unbelievable! A true example of the powerful audio quality GeoShred is capable of.
Overall, GeoShred can be an easy musical tool for people looking to have some fun, or pretty much your next musical endeavor. It's as far down the rabbit hole as you want to go with this app, because it seems endless with options and functionality.

It’s not just an App It’s a new Instrument

Love it…Wisdom Music always come up with great apps and this is not an exception. GeoShred got enough effects and instruments and inspires you to write music anywhere and with support of Audiobus you can record your ideas to garage band as well. This app is not for only musicians my kids have tons of fun with it and for me it is something I can also use as an instrument on my recordings.

Fantastic - Geo 2.0++...

Update: Taking off a star because this app should support midi out. It's a pity that it plays so well, and you can't use it to play other synths or record midi to Auri Pro...
I'm a big fan of the original Geo and this brings it to the next level. It's more playable, somehow, includes excellent sounds, the UI is vastly improved. Great work improving an already excellent instrument! Definitely worth the price!

My five year old son asked me to get this app and I did and now the whole family is having fun messing around with sounds. We love the interface. The preset sounds are diverse and incredible. The app is very intuitive and anyone can have fun with it. We have been using it for over a day and love it so far. Another favorite app! What to do? What to do?

Play it! What an excellent instrument! Now I have two "favorite" music apps! Noatikl 3 being the other and it compliments GeoShred nicely. I spent almost 1/2 an hour playing with just the first preset and only changing the octaves and how much that changes the character of the sound! At first I was thinking that the price was a little steep then I get up into the 50s playing with the bundled presets and it's worth every penny! I love the ability to turn on trace and see what is really going on with your more dynamic playing.
It provides sonic candy for the mind.
It's not just good reinforcement for kids! Anyone that's starting getting into music.
I don't think the name does it justice. Shredding really has not much to do with anything other than that you can make some pretty outrageous music and sounds. Like playing Deep Purple's lead intro to 'Smoke on the Water' using the 'PowerCordMono' preset, it's a natural! Very well done!

It can do more than shred

There are a wide variety of instruments to play in the app. It has far and away the best resonance and feedback of any app I've tried. You may find yourself pressing the glass a little harder trying to pull a little more out of the app. It's one of the few apps that really takes advantage of the iPad's touch playing surface. It's also the kind of app where you can learn to improve your playing as it's not just plunking some keys and messing with the pitch or mod wheel. It is truly an amazing app.
