Deceptively amazing
When you pick this game up, it can seem boring at first. You get a few hundred points at first and you're maybe asking yourself "what's the point".
But you pick up a few common patterns after a few games, and start playing around, and soon your making a few thousand points. There comes a point where suddenly patterns start turning into strategies, you check out some ideas...
And suddenly the game opens up into something amazing and deep.
You realize you are fighting to stay on the cusp of creation and destruction as the whole world crumbles around you. The complexity of this struggle is great, and you build a huge chest of tools to carry with you.
Now you're making tens of thousands of points, breaking a hundred thousand, getting deeper and deeper. And you find yourself sketching mathematical analyses of fall patterns, looking for that something that unlocks it that you now know, just deeply, intuitively know, is hiding there.
This could very well be the mindworm that Device 6 alluded to.

Best game ever!
I bought this game a month ago, I love it!
It has so many hidden features like if you tap and hold on the title screen (spl-t) you get to balance a ball on a paddle, or if you get bored with the dark colors flip the device upside down. You also can change the color if you shake the device. I'm sure that there is more that you can find!
Like some other comments I agree that the app is worth more than it is priced at.

Very disappointed
When I was looking at the app and I saw the good ratings and I thought oh this is better than it seems but it's what it seems, but when I wasted 3 or 4 dollars and played the game I was very disappointed about how it made no sense and I'm not kidding when I say minesweeper is better and easier to learn than this.😡

new, more dynamic 2048
this puzzler is guaranteed to make you think 10 clicks in advanced. w/ no time constraints and a consistent in game mechanic, anyone can sit down and fully indulge their concentration to solve an infinite amount of possible splits.
i believe it's a 5 star game on its first version, and needs an update to fix just a few problems. my biggest concern is the supply of the new black boxes. in some instances they stop filling in a particular column which i believe to be a coding error. this along w/ other concerns listed in these comments are the cause for my 4 star rating, but please don't be discouraged bc this is my favorite iphone game rn !

Ok, not worth the price at all.
The game was alright, but lacks the depth I was looking for. I was hoping for a strategy game that evolved and became better as I played, but this game just isn't it. At a price of 2.99 it just isn't worth the money. I would rate 4.5 if it was .99

What the hell?
I've read the instructions multiple times. I've played the game over and over. Yet I have absolutely NO IDEA what is happening. Im not an idiot, this game is just confusing. Why does it split for some squares, but not others? What do the numbers mean? What is the point of this game??
Obviously other people understand it, but I'm completely baffled. No game should be this difficult to understand.

Math puzzle for the OCD crowd
This is basically a puzzle about how to balance between two log2(n) functions represented by gray boxes. They've done a lovely job of intertwining the functions (dividing lines vs drop times), but there is ultimately a single optimal deterministic solution. If you have the patience to figure it out. Or interest.

Interesting puzzle would be massively more fun with undo and reset
Trying out different strategies in this solitaire game is interesting, but annoying to learn strategies because of the lack of an undo move ability. Also, the only way to reset the board is to quit and kill the app. Makes it less explorable and more frustrating. Five stars otherwise.

Great game with one small complaint...
I love this game, and it is more complex than it looks. However, with one small fix it could be a five-star game. The game should not disappear when there are no more moves, so that users can look at the board and see where they went wrong. Also, the current user's high score should be visible on the game screen, so that the user knows the score they are trying to beat. Small fixes...please!

Great game with lots of replay
I have not had this much fun with a casual game since I first discovered 2048. Really easy mechanics with huge replay value is a big winner in my book.

Not ideal
Piss-poor explanation + unappealing aesthetic. Read the instructions, but honestly I spent the first hour utterly confused and mashing the screen randomly. Could not figure out why some splits were working and others weren't, and that was VERY frustrating.

Maybe I just don't understand the point of this game but it seems pretty senseless to me. Any game that requires as many directions as this game does isn't much of a game, in my mind. I know it has four stars, so maybe I'm missing some "amazing" aspect to it but in my mind it just seems like a waste of money.

Easy to learn, fun to play 🙂
Just check the how to section of the game to learn how to play. This will only take a couple of minutes but it will provide hours and hours of fun. The only improvement I would like to see is a mute button.

It's not fun
I understand how it works I get it. I've gotten decent scores but it's just not a fun game.
I think the issue is you create the sections you need to clear and then clear them indirectly so more often than not you clear sections By accident. It's kinda more fun to just hit the board randomly and see what happens and to me that's not a fun puzzler.

Hmmmmm. This game is strange, yet interesting. If you're looking for a lot of pizzaz, this game is not for you. If you want a very minimal graphics game with some thinking, then serve yourself up a nice slice of SPL-T pie. For 99 cents it's a good little tidbit. As usual, Simogo AB can't be pigeon-holed.

More than what it seems...
First off, if you loved Simogo's other hit, Device 6, you will love this game. If you didn't like Device 6, you will still love this game (as long as you have a respect for puzzle games and care more about thought and strategy than mindless tapping).
As some other reviews have mention, there's a lot of depth here. And they're right. There are TONS of little hidden secrets. One example of this is if you hold on the "Spl-t" title screen you can play a mini-game where your balancing a ball. There's much more but I think I'll let you figure that out for yourself :)
On the surface, this game looks simple. You tap squares alternating the type of line you break. At first glance this game with its simple design, ironically has a lot of rules and looks complicated but once you start to get the hang of it you can't put it down (Also if you shake the device it can change the color if you ever get bored of the normal 'black and white' theme, and if you flip the screen over you can invert the colors). The goal is to get the highest score. Surprisingly, there are TONS of possible strategies to this game, and it's just one of those unique games you can't get enough of.
Remember, don't quickly disregard the game because of its early frustrations and huge learning curve.
All in all this is an amazing game that is easily worth the $2.99, all it needs it time and it will become your new favorite game.

Great game with flaws
Subtracted two stars for lack of option to restart, and a lack of simple leaderboard support.
This is a completely deterministic game. There are no random elements, and therefore it can be "beaten" in the sense that there is one perfect, repeatable way to get the highest possible score. Thus, a leaderboard would just turn into a list of people who have done this in no particular order.
Still for those of us who don't have that kind of time, a friends leaderboard would be nice to have for the more casual players.

Original and Unique
This game is fun to play, and it challenges you more and more as you begin to understand it better and develop strategies. Five stars, but if I had a suggestion, I think you should have a pause/restart menu. It'd let players save their progress and would allow them to start over if they know they made a sequence of bad moves that will ultimately lead to a bad score.

Amazing. But missing 2 things
This game is great. Lots of depth. But the game need leaderboards and Game Center support. I want to get some friend score wars going on. Also, is there an easier way to restart?

Minimalist Perfection
Simogo continues to amaze- each release is so different from the other, while maintaining quality, depth, and uniqueness. These guys are not just cranking out sequels and match three games!
Spl-t is a wonderful, addictive puzzler built for simple touch controls. I'm at 40k score with 300 splits and I can't stop trying to beat it. Just one more game....
Whether it's Device 6, Year Walk, or now Spl-t, you can't go wrong with a Simogo app.

Ruining my life
Elegant, multilayered, sinister, and deep experience. I have been playing for weeks now and the experience and thinking that unfold in SPL-T are amongst the most satisfying and challenging of any puzzle game I've played this year. 5 stars. A possible classic. Ruining my life.

Far from perfect
I like the fact that it's innovative and it's kind of fun to play that is why I gave it three stars. I can't possibly see how you could get really good at it and play a game for more than five minutes. Also once you started a game there's no way to quit it without getting all the possible splits. that is mainly why It lost two stars

Lot of Depth Here
When I first opened this game it was not immediately apparent how great it is. Reading the instructions is fairly necessary though you can figure out the general mechanics without doing so.
I've been playing for a few days now and I've already changed my strategy completely several times. There is a lot of hidden depth to this game. Very fun, no time pressure at all. Doesn't look ridiculous in public. Definitely worth a buy.
Source: Brought enough apps at this point I shouldn't talk about it. I don't review but this game is 5 stars. (Also math major, maybe that's affecting my score)

It's not a bad game it's just I've been playing for about a day now and my highest score was when I first played and I had no idea what to do and I was randomly clicking things. I am pretty bad, but I do better randomly clicking than strategically playing. I don't think it should cost that much.

Busted game saves
Seems like a decent (if ugly) puzzler, but when my phone runs out of battery, it loses game state and I have to start over. I am definitely not going to risk the time to play this until they fix that. iPhone 6 running latest OS.

Fiendishly good
I am not a huge video game person but the simplicity and yet, inability to score well, on this one sucked me in. It took me days to get anything beyond a seemingly accidental okay score. Today I finally figured a bit of a strategy, and somehow got over 26K! Next two games, around 2K. It's really quite challenging and a temptation. Try it.

Ingenious
Imagine if Ingmar Bergman had made Threes.
Seemingly complex, it soon reveals itself to be elegant and intuitive. Terrifyingly simple, but I am still discovering new strategies after hundreds of games. Completely deterministic, yet every game is completely different. How did they do it? Utter brilliance.

Can't put it down.
Spl-t is driving me crazy. I'm normally not a huge puzzle person, but I'm dying to figure out the right algorithm for this game. I've tried so many different methods - symmetry, math, patterns - and the highest score I can manage is 13,000. An amazing game through and through.

Fun
Hard to get but I like that. People that rated 1 star probably did that because they didn't even give the game 5 minutes and couldn't solve a puzzle even if their life depended on it, a shame :/ but once you get it its more of a challenge and a puzzle iv'e ever had, now my top game on my phone, Simogo always did do a good job with they're games. Good game but missing a few things
I enjoy the simplicity in this, but it's a little open-ended for my tastes. Would like to see another game mode where there is a bit more urgency. Almost like Drop7 style.
Also, if you're having a good run, DONT CLOSE THE APP. You will lose everything you worked for. This is a big problem and hopefully will get fixed.

The more I play, the more I love it.
This game is infuriatingly simple. But it is hard to pin down a good strategy. I have been playing for 40 minutes solid. I will get a new high score and then, frustratingly, be unable to recreate anything close to that score the next game.

Good design, interesting gameplay
This is proof that ultra-minimalist design can work: take a solid gameplay premise and let it speak for itself. No shattery glass, gems, or energy meters. Just pure play. And it does work. It's just...there isn't a lot of replay to it. I don't know what it is, but it seems to get stale after a while. But I can say in response to the reviews that claim it's random -- it isn't. This takes strategy and planning. A clever puzzle that's not for everybody. Read the ? File to learn the basics. I'd give it a B+

Great Game - Please update!
I love the game. It’s cute and simple and terribly difficult. I really really enjoy it.
There are 2 main features that the game lacks:
1. Suspended play
2. Mute sound
I play on the subway while listening to audiobooks / podcasts. The clicks and pops of the soundtrack are nice, but tiring… and definitely hurt my ears when my other audio gain is low. Also, since I’m on the subway, occasionally I have to leave the game to walk home or go to work. I have lost a lot of great starts because of this. Both of these features are table stakes for modern iOS games. Please update.

Stunning
Spl-t works has a very simple set of rules. The rules seem so absurd at first, you can't even form any strategy -- you just play. But as you play, game after game, you slowly get to understand it more. With every game, you build upon your failures.
The rules never change, and there are no new items or levels. But it gets better and better as you play. What an incredibly elegant game.

Crazy freaking hard, in all the right ways
This is a puzzle game where you last as long as you can before inevitably losing to the rising pressure, like Tetris or 2048. But this game is so unique and unlike anything else I've played. The strategies you have to form for this game are so elaborate and convoluted, changing as you progress and forcing you into corners you didn't know existed. This game is elaborate, easy to understand and hard to master. Six stars. Keep it up lads!

LOVE everything Simogo does. This one is minimal and shockingly narrative free but has a high learning curve & feels incredibly deep.

Somethings.... Off?
I don't know ... the spacing between the 10th and 11th diagonal line in the app icon looks like it's 1 or 2 pixels wider than it should be. Same goes for the 20th and 21st line (yer it somehow seems like less of a gap): I'm sure this was a design decision to eff with our heads but I'm just sayin' "I see what you did there" - for the record - if you catch my drift... Great job for real though.

Fun game!
Don't listen to most of the people giving it one star-they didn't play long enough to figure out how it works. It's more than just splitting boxes. Overall fun game, but I'd love to see another game similar to device 6, year walk and sailors dream. It's easy to find puzzle-type games like this(although this is a bit different and worthwhile imo) but there is a lack of compelling story based games, and no one makes them like Simogo!

This game is crack. Last night I had hours disappear, splitting rectangles. It's brilliantly simple but hard to explain. You have to figure it out yourself, those bad reviews are from people too impatient to give it a chance. This is seriously my favorite puzzle game.

Great Puzzle game with a greater hidden puzzle
With Split, Simogo has made a great simplistic game that feels right at home with easy to pick up game boy puzzle games.
...they also have seemed to have hidden something else along with it, which is stumbled upon while you play. (The narrative feels very Device 6ish).
It's sleek, minimal, addicting, and above all else, ominous.
