Snoop Dogg has comeback in a big way! Just when you think the Dogfather can't learn a new trick, he surprises us all with this new reinvention of his style and music. Far removed from the musings of Gangsta life and pimpin, Snoop takes us on a ride of his evolution. It is fair to say the Snoop we get on BUSH is the synergy of Doggy Dog and Snoop Lion, a much wiser and controled approach to musical vision and personal evolution but with same ol Snoop swagg that is often imitated but never duplicated or faded. This is not a rap album, and nor should it be Just because its a Snoop Dogg album. This is simply a Snoop Dogg album that is possibly the most sincere collection and expression of who Snoop is a person and an artist. The production is masterful and impeccable throughout courtesy of the immortal Pharrell Williams. The only throw away track that doesn't particularly add to the depth or enjoyment of this new body of work is the song "Edibles" which sounds more like a by the numbers album filler. Every other song on the album takes you on a ride with Snoop to places we haven't been before with him. The opening trak "California Roll" embodies the spirit of the album and once played a couple of times becomes ingrained in your head and heart. Its the voyage of a person who has controled and tempered his tumultuous youth and harsh environment, transcended it completely in fact to embrace the simple things in life that bring joy but never forgetting where he came from for a second. We may not all relate to Snoops's life, but the music touches a place in the soul that we can all relate to for overcoming the unneccessary trivialities of life with a clear vision of who we are, what makes us happy and how we "Roll". This is a Snoop album that may recieve criticism early on for its departure from typical Snoop formula but in time it will be revered as a masterful classic and portrait of what the higher evolution of an artist looks like. I know they never like to do it the same way twice, but as far as I'm concerned I hope Snoop and Pharrell continue making collaborative albums like this because this is one journey I don't want to end yet. This is an outstanding album, a susccesful evolution of style and genre change by an artist and worth the purchase!
