The Gray Chapter I think is one of their all time heaviest albums, songs like The Negative One AND Custer are solid heavy songs.

So glad this band is still around

all records from SLIPKNOT are amazing and =! Hopefully Joey comes back. and I just got a tattoo of JOEY'S All Hope Is Gone mask. And if you want this cd get it in a store not here, there's 3 hidden songs on the extended version. one of them is 2 minutes of silence, one of them is a 6 and a half minute SID wilson DJ solo and a minute and a half minute Craig Jones DJ solo.

Long overdue review here, I think XIX Really brings tears to the eyes and means don’t give up and stay strong even though you’re sad, and The Devil in I music video came out 1 month before my mom passed away from cancer, so that song means a lot to me and after that I started listening to Slipknot a lot more and became a true fan/maggot

Love it!

Ever since Slipknot released their self titled album "Slipknot" they just got better and evolved to even higher stages through every album! In .1 Slipknot it was all yell. Vomit. Beat people up. Then in .2 Iowa Slipknot had a new "tone" of metal, Corey's Shocking Vocals were still racing but .2 was more of an Alternative Metal album. Next .3 The Subliminal Verses Slipknot got new drums and new guitars and Corey still had some of .1 in him just "Snarred", and Duality was the true Blockbuster in .3 . Additionally .4 All Hope is Gone, in .4 Slipknot seemed to have a bunch of songs that didn't seem very popular like Gehenna and Butchers Hook. And FINALLY .5 The Gray Chapter ! In my opinion Slipknot went from Sarcastrophe to The Burden and Had a fast pace to all the songs which was truly what we were looking for! Here's to future albums 🍻

This is a bit overdue

Ok, so this is the first album without Joey and Paul. I gotta say, this is much more than I could anticipate. The drummer, Jay, is a great fit for Slipknot and I do hope to see him on future albums. The bassist is great, especially as he's being compared to Paul Grey (RIP). Cannot wait for the new album. Joey was my favorite member, but Jay is definitely my new favorite along with Corey. .6 will be an amazing album.

As a fan of heavy metal and Slipknot this album satisfies in so many ways. XIX, The Devil In I, AOV, Custer, and Skeptic are my favorites. This album shows great Corey screams and regular singing along with some kick but drums and guitar. The new bassist is also very good too.
The only negatives is that some of the songs seem odd and out of place like if rain is what you want. Also still wishing Sid and Craig got a bigger role in at least a quarter of the songs. Every album their role seems to be diminishing. Slipknots self titled album showcases their skills greatly, especially Sids.
That's all I have to say. If you like Metal this is definitely for you pick this up immeadietly

Just. Amazing. I can’t say it’s their best work, ONLY because I love every single thing they do. It is simply the next stage in their epic transformation as a family. Now, for the haters. Those of you who hate it because it’s not the “Iowa” slipknot, DURRRR. IT IS 2014. They’re EASILY just as heavy and terrifying, with an added powerful dose of raw emotion and musicality reminiscent of epic melodic tunes like snuff, child of burning time, vermilion, duality, etc. Those of you who hate it because it’s “the devil’s music” or “screaming is stupid and meaningless you can’t even understand anything” maybe actually LISTEN to the lyrics, FEEL the energy and try to understand all of it with your tiny brains. Im sorry you don’t understand anything deeper than the mind boggling lyrics of taylor swift and nicki minaj. Discover the rage hidden within yourself then maybe you can appreciate it. Until then, shut up and sit in your corner with your thumb in your mouth, afraid of what you don’t understand. But, please don’t change your ways, for you’re the fuel to the immortal flame that is SLIPKNOT. LIVE LONG AND DIE FOR ME!!!

I got the chance to listen to Slipknot's .5 The Gray Chapter in advance on their website and I absolutely love their album. This album is one of their most beautiful, chaotic, and devastating albums, paying a special tribute to Paul Gray who passed away four years ago. It took them a while to recover from this tragic event, but it was well worth the wait. Put your horns in the air as Slipknot is back.

This is the best album ever created, period. To all the 4,3,2,and 1 star reviewers... this album is way over your head - feeble minds can't even comprehend this level of greatness. This is godly.
There is something supernatural about Slipknot - each song they create is some sort of being. I remember the day Eyeless visited me and all I could think was LOOK ME IN MY BRAND NEW EYE!!! Their lyrics are timeless - if you are in a tough place in your life, read some Slipknot lyrics; you may discover something new.
I'm sure many others have noticed, Slipknot is one of those bands that writes a song and ten years later you are listening to it and you hear Corey say something and it clicks in your head and your mind is blown; almost as if the song came to you because you needed to know something. Sid said it best, "It's in the air."

A story worth a listen

I have been a huge Slipknot fan since the inception of the band. I remember their first appearance on Howard Stern, where one word used to describe the band was "Fresh." Well, they are still as fresh as they have ever been. The music shows the evolution of the band, but still manages to tap into their roots from their first album. The diversity within the music never ceases to astound, constantly keeping the songs captivating. More so than just songs or music, Slipknot have managed to tell a story through what they have generated here. Albums like this come few and far between. They are the ones that truly allow us to peek into the lives and emotions of the artist. That is what makes Slipknot so remarkable: You can relate to them. Every song thus far has been brilliant and the album should elevate the band to eternal metal icons.
On another note, if you know you don't like heavy metal and it's not your thing, don't listen. But giving this band a low rating because you find it scary or otherwise don't like this kind of music doesn't make for a helpful review. I won't be rating Katy Perry's next album because I know for a fact that it's not my thing. Don't hate on Slipknot, they changed metal and rock with their debut and each album since. This one continues the trend.

Gotta love the bad rating people "what is this devil music" "this is crap, who would ever listen to this". Maybe in your very shallow, prim and proper, god loving world it is crap. Fine. Now get back to listening to Amy Grant and Josh Grobin.

For those of you who haven't heard the news.. Corey Taylor sings in slipknot as well. Stop saying it sounds like stone sour and accept the fact that Corey is bringing some real stuff to the table and making this band sound like it never has. Six long years have passed and now the Knot is back and my point of view of the new album so far is this: IT'S AWESOME! Now I know there are alot of haters out there thinking that Slipknot has sold out but in truth they haven't. If you listen carefully to how Corey is singing the songs you can hear the sadness (example: XIX) which makes you feel the pain that he and the band must have gone through to continue without their Brother Paul. The Devil in I sounds nothing like Stone Sour in my opinion. Devil sounds like a mix of both Iowa and Vol. 3. And of course The Negative One; what to say but "HOLY $H!T!!!" Negative has the feel of Iowa if you only just listen and tune out what the Knot use to be. If you don't belive me then watch The Devil in I video and you will see the band kill their old selves. They are moving on and if you don't like it then please move on and stop posting your venom.

This albume is a grown up mature Slipknot. Start to finish, it's a love note / goodbye and closure to Paul Gray. It's actually very incredible. There are a handful of stand out hard hitting songs but most of it is them accepting their new lives and what's ahead. What I do love about them is no album is like another. Each album is it's own thing, a piece of their life up to that point.

Slipknot has arrived. Yet again. This band has been through so much, I don't think many realize the metamorphous that Slipknot has endured. I am so excited about this new album and I have the Special Edition pre-ordered. Electrical guitar rifts, stunning vocals, their DJ has everything under control in the background, and I have nothing but love and support for their new drummer. RIP Paul Gray and thank you Slipknot for unleashing yet gem for us all to enjoy,

Look, all that has been out in the last six years is StoneSour. Most listeners focus on the vocals. CT is not the most versatile singer in the Universe, but the guy writes amazing hooks and is great interpretive writer of or modern age in music. Is he verbose, yea. Is he a bit crazy, yea. For those who still read you know many of the greatest writers, poets, and artists were heavily skewed from what was considered normal. Additionally, it is going to be hard for anyone to be a vocalist in more than one project, especially if it rock/hard rock/metal to sound different in these separate groups, especially when the genres are very much related. The way he attacks his writing style isn’t going to change much either. The things that cause change in a vocalist are his life and lifestyle. We evolve, slowly, and CT to include the members of Slipknot will as well. The world changes, but there will always be subjective criticism. It shouldn’t be their propagative to live up to your standard of their art. You either enjoy it or you don’t. I introduced everyone to them when they hit the scene. Many were so locked into Pantera and the black album from Metallica that they couldn’t even enjoy the artistic mayhem that I was introducing them to. It grew on them, just as Korn did and Rage Against The Machine. It is art. Art is always subjective. When we can all relate to it is when it becomes its own animal. Once that animal thrives some keep feeding it and others seek to sacrifice or starve it because they haven’t evolved with it. The first album will always be important to us. Just like our births are to our parents. The first album is the one you seen them perform in its entirety. With each album that a band produces, the live show suffers because the band is left with the challenge of satisfying the mob so they can keep being artists. They have to weave together each successive album with every tours set list. The brand we now have that is Slipknot is not the first album we heard from them, nor the second or third. Appreciate the fact that they are still painting you pictures with their musical mayhem.
These two first singles show great promise for the whole album in its entirety. Enjoy the book and stop judging chapters, playing one against the other. There is a story to be heard in every album. Quit skipping songs. Close your eyes and ignore the urge to jump to the conclusion without having all of the character development. There is no need to compare albums. They are not telling the same story. The characters are not the same, just the men who play them.

Toto, I don’t think we are in Iowa anymore...

While the first release “The Negative One” certainly had some Iowa vibes to it, the latest release “The Devil In I” is practically the opposite. Although I have nothing against bands progressing in their styles, this album promised a return to the Iowa style for Slipknot, and this unfortunately does not seem like it will be the album to do that. Each new album since Volume 3 seems to bring in more of the Stone Sour influence, which perhaps to some may be a good thing, but not what I personally look for in a Slipknot album. Hopefully the rest of the tracks will prove me wrong.

I have been a die hard fan of The 9 since I could remember. They are extremely talented in every way that I can describe, and continue to amaze me every time they release something. This album is going to be great, the sound is superior, and I can feel the emotions that are expressed. But, there are a few downsides.
1. The drums will never be the same without joey.
2. The bass will never be the same.
3. "The Devil In I," is a great track, but has less of a punch to it. sounds like Corey spent a little too much time with stone sour, but it is still good nonetheless.
Other than that, this album has great potential. I am excited and scared for what this band still has to offer. Overall I recommend this album to anyone and everyone. This band has changed my life, and I know this chapter will offer something great. Stay (sic)

This album will be epic. Starting out as an obscure band from Iowa and evolving into the juggernaut known as Slipknot this band has become the epitome of heavy metal. What they have accomplished in their careers is amazing and how they have such a fan following is incredible. It was heartbreaking what happend to Paul but finding the will and fortitude to continue on with the band and making music has been an inspiring journey. I look forward to the album and many more years from in my eyes the greatest heavy metal band to grace the soundwaves and the world of music.

If you don’t know who Slipknot is, let me sum it up for you. They were the biggest @#$%ing deal in rock at the start of the 21st century. Sadly, they took a little time off when their bassist died (R.I.P man), but now no one, and I mean NO ONE will be able to top these guy’s return. We maggots are welcoming them with arms wide open, and if you got a problem with it you can wait in line!

Caaaaaaant wait!!

So far Slipknot has evolved to a level only a true 'maggot' can appreciate. From their self-titled debut, delivering heart stopping riffs and breakdowns, to All Hope is Gone with their brutal attacks and heartbreaking ballads like Snuff, one can appreciate the next chapter before it even begins. 'The Devil In I' has bone chilling verses with melodic riffs to elevate the mood, where 'The Negative One' deploys a vicious attack to whoever you choose, this album promises to deliver everything a 'Maggot' could ask for.

Love it

I have always been a fan. With the passing of Paul this album is going to have a lot of pain and emotion to it. I love the first two songs. Can't wait to hear the rest.
