The Smiths are one of the best bands from England. Like all of their albums, The Queen Is Dead is an addictively entertaining listen! #TheSmithsForLife #MozzaArmy

The best Smiths album, hands down

This is by far the best Smiths album, or at least the best Smiths album that isn't a compilation. This is funny, sad, and and literate (often in the same song). Every song is a Smiths classic, with Marr's guitar and the rest of the band playing the perfect foil to Morrissey's croon. The perfect album from this singles-driven band.

The best of the Smiths

This is my favorite album of theirs. As always, they are the perfect blend of self deprecating, morbid, and tragically beautiful. From "Frankly Mr. Shankly" to "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out," every song it contains is worth your love and your money. In this album you see the best the Smiths have to offer-- which, if you ask me, is pretty freaking amazing.

Powerful and Emotional

This is The Smiths becoming a more mature band with a depth and range that is different than on other Smiths albums. You can feel the pain and suffering - and distant joy - every time Morrissey opens his wonderful mouth.

Almost perfection

Personally, there has always been a great fascination with The Queen is Dead. Although not as progressive as I had thought when I first heard the album in the late 80's, TQID perfectly balances the sublime guitars of Johnny Marr and the depressingly hilarious (or is hilariously depressing) lyrics and vocals of Morrissey. Both pop-lush and rock-aggressive, each song is different yet interlocks perfectly as an album.

Lyrically Incredible

The Queen Is Dead is lyrically my favorite album ever. It's funny, it's poetic, it's emotional, it's pure. Everything falls into place perfectly, but the lyrics are what tie this LP together. Not to mention the absolute wonder music. A must-own album.

Truly a classic

the best smiths record (though hateful of harrow comes close)

Lyrical heresy

Top representative for pale retiring young Prufrocks and probably a few Hamlets. Quirky lyrics evocative of worthless intellectuals scouting the horizon for a promising disaster. (Translation: enjoyable even if not precisely sharing sentiment. Fun.)

What Would You Pay To See A Smiths Reunion?

Morrissey at his whiny best (laughing all the way to the bank, I'm sure) with his post-post-punk angst and cheeky lyrics exploiting the misery that was '80's English grayness. Johnny Marr at his jinglely-jangley riffy best as well. A masterpiece.

This was one of my earliest CD purchases (back when CDs were new) and my first forays outside of the New Wave of the times. This album has stood the test of time for me, and is now my favorite album, almost thirty (!!!) years later. Doesn’t get much better than this.
