Soulful, deep feeling, funky music

Real talent in a manufactured world.

Pretty good!

"What's the Use" is catchy and thoughtful, "Multiply" is nice as well
"Game for Fools" has smooth vocals with sweet bass line
The dissonant organ in "What Is It This Time" is a bit weird for me.
Overall, a good feel in the music, a nice soft-funk.

This album kept me goin on American Idol

This is my favorite record of 2007. Jamie Lidell has done everything right on this record. I love the Glitchy IDM into the soulful Funk!! I didn't put this record down the whole year and it kept sane through American Idol. As a fellow looper, I am super impressed by Jamie.
Super stoked that JIM is out now too!

Overrated

While there are some incredible tracks on this cd, (Multiply is easily worth a single DL. One of my favorites of last year.) much of the cd is banal and repetetive. The bpm, beats, and keys tend to be on the less interesting side. Without multiply, this CD would lose much of its merit.

The one missing track

No doubt this is an awesome album, but it's a partial album. The stupid thing is that the track that's not on hear is called "a little bit more." All you have to do if you want it is buy it off the when i come on back around EP on iTunes.

Play that funky music, white boy!

Take Prince at his best, mix him with a little bit of Sam Cooke and Wilson Pickett and you've got Jamie Lidell. Such a fun album! I just wish more people were catching on to this great artist.

HE SHOULD REALLY CONSIDER AN R&B CD!

LOVE THIS GUYS VOICE. HE SOUNDS REALLY GOOD. I REALLY DONT LIKE HIS NON R&B MUSIC LIKE NEWME AND THE CITY, BUT IAM IN LOVE WITH "A LITTLE BIT MORE" "WHATS THE USE" "MULTIPLY" AND WHEN I COME BACK AROUND. "A LITTLE BIT MORE" SHOULD BE PLAYED ON R&B RADIO STATIONS BECAUSE OF THE HARD BASS BEAT. WHO KNOWS, HE MAY RELEASE IT AS A SINGLE SINCE IT IS BEING PLAYED ON T.V ON TARGET COMMERCIAL ADS.

Thanks Target!!

I saw someone else said the same. Awe man, I wish I had heard this sound before today. I was looking for "A Little Bit More" because of the commercial and bought a couple of the other songs. Multiply is totally awesome. I have already emailed a couple of friends to either turn them on to this or chew them out for not letting me know sooner. What's the use is good also. Love the Bass lines.

Thank you Target commercial

I heard "A Little Bit More" on a recent Target commercial and loved it, so I went in search of the song. Totally by chance tonight I found it! I can't belive this album's been out since 2005 and I haven't heard it! Jamie is amazing and reminds me so strongly of Prince. I love all his songs now, they are catchy, upbeat, and totally original.

A LITTLE BIT MORE A LITTLE BIT MORE

I first was introduced to Jamie Lidell's music when he opened at a Beck concert. The man is phenominal, and ten times more phenomenal live then on the album because he creates all the music through looping and sings all live. I HIGHLY recommend seeing him. He's amazing.
As for the album, also amazing. So many great songs on here, especially in the beginning. I think the best songs are "You Got Me Up," "Multiply," "A Little Bit More," (LOVE THE TARTGET COMMERCIAL!!) "What's the Use," and "What Is It This Time."
PHENOMENAL!! This guy is a genius on blending music together. DOWNLOAD NOW!!!

Pure Talent and Originality

A fusion of soul, funk, and electronica - brought alive by a genuine voice the comes from the gut. His song Multiply (live and recorded) are great examples of the singing talent behind the rockin songs...I'm not a fan of EVERY song, but this guy is truly talented and that's rare in the music industry these days....

Wow, well done chap.

I came across Jamie from a friend of mine who had heard his music. She said she liked him, but he wasn't her taste (crappy emo is) but she said I would love him. She was right. For a little dinky English dude, hes got more soul in his voice than many people out there today trying to do what he does. His songs are fantastic and this CD is one of the only CDs I can listen to all the way through without having to skip that filler song I don't like. He's bringing the soul vibe back and I love that. We need music witha little more substance nowadays.

How Did This Get Labelled Electronic?

There is some really great stuff here but ultimately it's a pretty mixed bag. Best cuts are Multiply, What's the Use, Music Will Not Last, Game For Fools. Like James Hunter this is some fine retro-Soul although Hunter's attempt is solid from start to finish Lidell's effort has some holes. The production duplicates some of the nicest elements of 60' soul. I'd cherry-pick the tracks rather than getting the whole album.

A little bit more...and I'll Multiply!

I love "Whats the use" because my father is always asking what is the question of life and the point in trying to figure it all out! This album is very smooth and relaxing, though at times it can get funky as with the track "Newme". The ballad "What is it this time" reminds me of the likes of Al Green and B B King...The closing number is the most soulful piece and should start the romantic candlelight dinner in ease. Multiply is down right hip. I think this album is way better than the annoying over-promoted James Blunt disaster.

The best, most unexpected album I've heard all year.

I haven't been more excited about an album in a long, long time. Imagine the soul, funk, and disco of the 60s and 70s re-envisioned by one of the most pioneering experimental electronic producers of our time. Even better, imagine that work being done with a reverence and authenticity completely uncharacteristic for the majority of people working in the genre. What you'd have is a triumph; a moving and inspiring work of brilliance. I can't wait to hear what jamie does next.

best album.

not only is this one of the best albums that i have ever purchased (hands down), jamie lidell puts on one of the best live shows i have ever seen. its not often that i am inspired by not only the talent, but the creativity of the musicians that i enjoy, but jamie lidell succeeds. seeing him live added another layer to the experience of his music. being of a younger generation, lidell helps me understand and have a greater appreciation for the music which he references so beautifully and perfectly. plus, hes super sexy...and that helps. i highly recommend this album.

Crazy Mad - Gorgeous Voice

This week's free download of his song "What's the Use" has inspired me to find out all I can about Jamie. What I've found a few mere hours is that this is one crazy blue eyed boy with one of the most spectacular voices I've heard in a long while! Pop music needs more voices like this, but more importantly pop music deserves creative minds like this. I hope this is a trend that keeps going and evolving from here on out. I just don't see how someone could hate a voice this pure and talent this raw. This man is what loving music is all about.

More soul than any artist today!

I have been listening to Jamie Lidell for years now and I have always been impressed by his left of center vocalizations and instruments. Still, stripping it all away to reveal his voice's raw soul-power is yet another Lidellism that is his talent.

Tom Waits' little brother?

---Outstanding tracks---
A little Bit More :: nice funky simple -- reminds me of sunbleached wooden shacks on a summer day.
What's the Use :: Just go and listen to it! :)
What is it this Time:: ooh, a little Wilson Pickett, or Al Green drifting thru....there should be more tracks like this one, a little sharp pain and wistfulness in the voice and whoa!
Game for Fools:: uh....huh! This track got it goin on. Nice vocal phrasing, again, simple background brushed cymbals, a little bass keeps the cornbread, beans and rice feelling goin' on here.
----Tracks to Dump----
Newme/The City :: Neither of these tracks sound sound as though they are as polished as they could be. Newme sounds like a freshman effort more suited to a high school student just learning how to put tracks together. The City Track just doesnt work with the hard rock edge constantly fighting with Lidell's chocolate silk voice. These two tracks sound like experiments that should have been left in the vault.
Multiply :: A little Otis Redding on the dock of the bay, and some weak lyrics leave this track feeling like a knock-off Fendi bag found at a flea market for a dollar.
If this song had been my first taste of this artist, I would have kept right on walking. Shame it is the title track for the whole album, cause there are waaay better tracks to groove to.
:::SUMMARY:::
Some of you might remember Boz Skaggs, an old member of the blue eyed soul vangard. Well, take a pinch of Boz, a little of Tom Waits, and some modern D'Angelo and keep the background rhythms and instruments simple and you've got some good music to sip a mocha latte by... (Two very weak tracks and one mediocre one keep me from giving it top marks)

Good News

A great job!
It's good to know that we don't need to be stuck with the same artists over and over again. It's time to change the stations and try to dig gold like this.

Try Exponentiate

It's just that good. Multiply, in and of itself, is a knock-your-socks-back-on return to the melodics of soul that delightfully refuses to discard the raging electronic theatrics of modern music. There's a point and poetry to Lidell that makes attempted semi-soul pop rockers look the part of the fleeting 6th grade summer jam, and with an album this fine, he indeed makes fools of us all. Join the club and give this one a listen.

album of the year

i don't think this album will be bettered in 2005 (or perhaps for a long time to come). a major departure from everything i have heard from jl before (either solo or superkollider), this is music for the 21st century. this scrawny white english dude has serious lung power and a voice that otis redding would have been proud of. the instrumentation across the album goes from electronica to catchy 60's style soul -- and it all works perfectly. multiply (title track) and music will not last are my favorite tracks but frankly, the rest grows on you so much with each listen that you quickly grow to love the whole thing. while the album is fantastic, i've never ever seen anything to compare to his live shows -- jl just reimagines what modern musical performance means and live really means live. inspiring and amazing.

Incredible Album from start to finish...

This album is touches on every facet of the whole soul, funk and R&B era of the 60s 70s and early 80s. Songs on this album evoke memories of artists like The Spinners, P-Funk and even Ray Charles. The mix of electronic intruments into some of these older sounding songs is a great mix. Listen to the single "Multiply" and ask yourself why people (besides Lidell) don't right stuff like this anymore. Do you self a favor and buy this album.

Amazing Record, you wont be dissapointed!

Jamie Lidells newest album is almost a total departure of his older material which was very dark and experimental. This album is like a big electronic funk hodgepodge that puts you in a good mood as you listen to it. It has an great indie feel as well but carries a universal appeal. This record is not to be passed over. Try the title track, "Multiply" to get a good feel of how the album sounds and then move along to "A Little Bit More" and "The City" to hear some of the albums hidden standouts. Listen and dance!
