Oddly a decent 2nd album

I like it.

Follow up to 10?

This is a million mile step down from the fantastic debut they released! None of the songs match up to the musicianship or even songwriting to what 10 is! This is factually NOT their best but where they went down hill fast!

Their best album

Their first 3 albums are amazing. I give them all a 5 star rating but Vs is my personal favorite of the three. The rest of their albums after these are real hit and miss. Least we always have 90’s era Jam.

Yep.

That’s the stuff. I read on a review someone called someone else uneducated because they thought ten was the better album. So, for all people out there who don’t already understand this here’s a bit of useful information. Opinions are like butt-holes everybody has one. Vs. and Ten are the only PJ albums I can listen to all the way through and then listen to it all the way through again. What’s there to argue about? Absolutely nothing is the answer to the previous question.

One of their best

Ten is an almost perfect album for the fans, but Vs. gives Ten a run for its money. Dave A. on the kit give a whole new life to the music and took the music to a whole new level. Great album.

Arguably their very best.

Rarely does a band deliver so surprisingly well after capturing the minds and hearts of listeners so infectiously with a debut album as Pearl Jam did with Ten. It wasn’t even expectations that were running high after Ten- we were already in love and engulfed in Pearl Jam’s debut album, it had become life itself. So whatever the band was gonna offer up next would’ve been devoured without much criticism from anyone (except maybe music critics who didn’t get into Ten in the first place). The band could’ve easily remade Ten and we’d buy it long enough to further their career. But that’s not what Pearl Jam wanted, and certainly not what they gave us. Vs. is arguably their best album (Vitalogy possibly better), because we didn’t see it coming, and there’s virtually no acknowledgement of what they did on Ten. They seemed to have cleared the slate, started over, and made a remarkably great album. Again.

2nd To None

Best album by Pearl Jam. Remastered version of ‘W.M.A’ is worth a listen on its own - a great treble take on one of their best songs. Brendan O’Brien really focused on an absence of bass on the remaster. ‘Cready Stomp’ made it worth the purchase over the original album for me. Nothing sophomoric about this one. ‘Vs.’ took Vedder out of his comfort zone and away from the “Seattle Sound”. Really separated themselves from the shadow of Nirvana and Soundgarden on their second effort. A breath of fresh air and a leaning towards punk (e.g. - ‘Blood’). Then the bluesy jazz ballad ‘Indifference’ - don’t think O’Brien changed much on this one. A perfect end to the perfect album.

Album cover is correct

This record is a literal beast. Vs is the album to start with for a new listener to the band. It captures the raw energy they had at the time, and stirs the emotions found on their later work. This reissue also features Crazy Mary, one of the bands finest moments in the studio, ever.

But it's not Ten...

You're right, it's not Ten. And yet, one of the best things about Pearl Jam is their song diversity. You can listen to any number of their songs in one sitting and not feel bored by the momentary staleness of one genre. But more specifically, what's not to love with this album? You've got the perfect balance of heart thumping anthems and smooth reflective pieces. And to top it off, the album offers multiple stand out songs such as Go, Daughter, Rats, Elderly Woman... (and more depending on what your style is). No, its not Ten. And even so, it just happens to be one of their greatest albums.

So so so good

This album is beautifully epic and crazy in the most wonderful way. I love Dissident and Rearviewmirror the most, although the whole thing is great. Daughter is great, but not their best. This album is amazing, but not as all around fantastic as Ten. Too bad they started sucking after this...and I'm way too young to have seen them in their prime. All that's left is the crappy stadium concerts. So sad..

You're a fool

I am tired of hearing that Ten is the best album and I am sure the band is as well. If you are stuck in 1992 and cannot grow with the band, then stop writing reviews. Your argument is moot and undereducated.

VS

I played the hell out of this when it came out. A lot of classic tunes and one of their best albums. Whom I kidding they're all great! My advice if you have the cash buy them all, If you don't then buy the live albums!!! It gives you a better mix of what PJ is about.

Close Second

As i still believe Ten is their masterpeice and their #1 album. Vs is a very close second hands down. A must have for any music lover!

Great album!

Easily Pearl Jam's second best album (Ten is miles ahead, but this is still great!). Animal, Glorified G, WMA, Rats, Elderly Woman, and Indifference are the best. Daughter is slightly overrated. My least favorite song on this album is probably Dissident. It's ok, but I don't care for it. WMA is one of the greatest Pearl Jam songs in their entire career. Dave Abbruzzese was probably my favorite PJ drummer. Buy this album. It's much better than Nirvana.

One of the Best

With their second album, Pearl Jam stripped away the grunge sound that layered Ten for vintage classic rock. Depending on your personal taste, this may be a good thing or a bad thing. It did fail to produce the memorable songs that made Ten so great, but it still stands as a very consistent and energetic set of songs.

I have been waiting for this since 1993. This album needs to be played very loud. This album makes me feel ALIVE. Thank you Pearl Jam for making this happen.
