Purchased this album and can only get 7 of the 50 tracks- not the ones I would prefer. Have called and written iTunes without response. 😔. The music is probably wonderful if only I could hear it.

Audiophiles can be picky over recordings and conductors of classical music. And if you are reading this, you are probably not an audiophile nor are you interested in reading something written by one. But if you like to listen to classical music every once in a while, this sets you up with some of the best known pieces. You can argue about what constitutes the 50 greatest works, but just go out and buy the missing ones that you like. The price is great, the music sounds nice (see note about not being an audiophile) and you do get 50 pieces. In sum, this should be one of the first albums that you buy on iTunes.

I recieved this album as a present my freshman year of High School. I was going to a performing arts high school and I wanted to listen to the pieces that my orchestra program was playing. The album did a fantastic job of showing me the surface of what classical music has to offer. Please note that this collection of works is not an exhaustive list. Allof the Symphonies that are on the album are just a snipit from it, or just a movment from the entire work. This is not nessisarily a bad thing, but I would say that if you get this album and find a work you like, do some more digging and get the ENTIRE work, because you may find something will stick with you forever.
Note too that this is missing great works of chamber music, solo music, and leaves out many 20th Century composers, like Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, and Adams, which I think is a shame because I think that some pieces by those composers deserve to be in this 50 Greatest Pieces lineup.
Anyhow, great place to start, but by no means an exhaustive list of the fantastic works that may or may not be represented on this list.

Some of the best music from the Western repertoire. Performed well and sold at a great price. But for multi movement works you don't get the whole spiele, fair enough though.

It is worth the money, this compilation of famous classical tracks is worth purchasing, although I am not a fan of all the tracks, I love the piece titled "Cavatina" which was in the film The Deer Hunter starring Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep & Chirstopher Waken, lovely song.

This is a great compilation of fantastic songs, and by the London Philharmonic! The album comes at a staggaringly low price, which I can't complain about. My only issue with this album is that when downloading, it creates 2 albums, with about 6 songs being displaced. It is an easy fix, but a bit annoying. Besides that, I find this $6 well spent!

I'm not an expert at all in classical music but I'm open to anything and everything.
If you want some real beautiful music you must buy this collection. There's absolutely no way that you can go wrong in buying this album. 1. Most of the pieces are interpreted by the London Philarmonic Orchestra 2. One way or another you've already heard many of these melodies, I recognized a lot of them, if not by name, by listening to them. 3. the price is great, for just about the price of a cup of coffee you can add 4 hours of some of the most beuatiful music to your collection. In a time when most of what you get on comercial radio is garbage, it's nice to be able to find deals like this on digital music. Please buy it.

If you're looking for all the great pieces, this is it!

I just started getting into classical music and this album did not disappoint! I was able to recognize a lot of the music from Disney commercials, other media, and other concerts. It's nice being able to put a title to the song now and have them. Excellent! Now I own the music to the familiar music! :D
I most definitely recommend this!

The music is wonderful. However, the poor audio quality of the MP3 file was noticeable. I should have gone with the CD. And I, too, would have liked to have seen the names of the composers listed as well.

I have always loved classical music ever since i was first introduced to it at a young age, but i never had a place to listen or find the songs that i knew from my previous years of listening. I have nothing but good things to say about the players and arrangers of the music found in this album. 10/10

As a 33 year old man I listen to alot of different music, anything from PinkFloyd to Mudvayne. But this by far is the most soul touching music ever created. If you want something that will truly make you feel than this is it.

Beautiful, but rather bare-bones.

Before I begin, I feel it's important to emphasize that this is the London Philharmonic, meaning the muscicianship on display here is second to none. That being said, what you're purchasing is an album of "classics." You won't find any deep cuts and you certainly won't be presented with any challenging material that you haven't already heard a million times before. Just be sure to read the track listing to gain an understanding of what you're getting into. However, the price is right and the pieces are as beautiful as you've ever heard them, so buy this album.
My biggest complaint here is with Ma Vlast. The London Philharmonic's iteration isn't quite as, well, "dark" as I'd prefer, but that's obviously a question of personal preference.

no vocals

The description should make it clear that these are orchestral versions of what, at least in some cases, are originally operas and other music where the vocals are critical to the quality of the whole.

If I were to point out one (very minor) gripe that I have with this purchase, it would be that SOME, not all, of the recordings in the woodwind and brass sections don't sound quite as good as it should be when it comes to pitch. Maybe it's just me, but compared to other recordings I've listened to, portions of these recordings are sub par in the woodwind and brass sections.
One of the recordings that stands out in my mind is Beethoven's 5th. Just listen to it and you will begin to understand what I'm saying. Now having said that, the string sections are flawless in every piece as they should be.
If you can get around the fact that some of the recordings in portions of these selections are sub par from the woodwinds and brass, then you will enjoy.
Also, you really can't go wrong for the price as the London Philharmonic Orchestra brings these "timeless" masterpieces to life for only $ 7.99!
As I pointed out earlier, my gripe is very minor, but to a trained ear it's somewhat disappointing.
For the price and selecton of music it gets 5 stars, but I gave it 4 stars because some of the woodwinds and brass were a bit sub par at times. I can't overlook this as these pieces really command perfection when recording!

This album...

 –
jobuthepirate
 –

... is nothing short of godly. If you're on the edge of buying it, but you're not sure what the entire album will be like (if most of it is crap); buy it. It will not disappoint. The London Philharmonic lives up to its name and more, and the selection is absolutely beautiful.
