Best of the best
No exaguration, this album is Jay Dee at his best! Okay, the shining is insane, but Ruff Draft in my opinion is just straight up raw dilla. I can't even explain how much I love this EP. There was only one dilla and we are fortunate to be left with these great works he finished before his untimely passing. RIP DILLA!

Nobody does it better
Getting 14 songs + 10 ill instrumentals.

RIP
R.I.P. J Dilla.

hip flop
sing song sing song Be original. The best thing going is these rhymes don't last long - only two top over 4 mins. Was your life listening as I have wasted mine writing the review.
Respect your culture, respect your mother, respect yourself and make the beat and melodies of hip hop ebb and flow with words ALL cultures can understand and words no one is ashamed to play infront of their church congregation or grandparents.
Would Huckabee get more votes playing this in Iowa?

I will bump this forever!
Since I first heard this album, I listen to it atleast a few times through every week. J Dilla is vastly underated as an M.C. His rawness, and sick flow sound perfect over these raw loops. One of my favorite albums ever! Rough Draft Motha F#@$er!
2007-05-18
This album is ok
I love Dilla but this album was just ok to me. Sorry all you "hardcore" Dilla fans but I would give it 3 1/2 if i could so it gets 3. I think it's because so many people are playing out that "From tha D" sound now and it all sounds the same. Leave Dilla's sound alone your killing something special!!!!
2007-05-15
Up with the greats
j dilla is up there with the greats like bob marley, jimi hendrix, james brown all the rest, hes just as dope! J DILLA CHANGED MY LIFE!
2007-05-12
Dilla. What more do I have to say?
I used to not know the name, but I've always known the beats. Dilla is by far a better producer/rapper than Kanye, Swiss Beats, Timbaland, and Just Blaze put together. It's my loss that I wasn't turned into a hardcore fan until I heard "The Shining" but now they can't pay me to stop bumping the music. J Dilla is Hip-Hop
-Dilla is Immortal

Jay Dee
Rest in Peace Dilla

Dilla Lives

R.I.P. DILLA DAWG
HIP-HOP IN ITS PUREST FORM!!

Dilla 4 Life
I've been down with Dilla since way back when he produced tracks for The Pharcyde, Busta, and when he joined w/ A Tribe as The Ummah. This album is just another reason for me to love music in general. Hip hop is dead, but J-Dilla will live forever. If you're a REAL fan of hip hop, you'll love this one.

Get wild, wild, wild!!!
I love this cd. This is so very tragic, just knowing that eventually, this will end. Dilla is indeed a phenomenal mc and the STANDARD of what a producer should be. I honestly feel it a shame.
As far as itunes difficulty etc., please do not rate this cd according to your ability via itunes to purchase or not. That has nothing to do with the actual cd. Thanks.

this must be it
i've been a fan of dilla since vol 1, and i can normally spot his beats when he does behind the scenes stuff (like that janet jackson and q tip song-for which he gets no credits for). he did it for the love. No producer to date or ever will be able to make a beat as funky as dillas. he takes sycopations and silence between beats to an unearthly place of funk. reminiscent of thelonius monk, you dont know where his next beat is coming from or it will be on time. this album is awe inspiring, but his duty is done and he has moved on but thanks and r.i.p. dilla
2007-03-22
Words aren't necessary...just listen
Dilla is the most missed of all talent to be brought forth. Ruff Draft is a true piece of art (along with the rest of his discography). So dope...word bond.
Al Sharp Tongue...Brick City!
reign in peace J Dilla!

Legendary
Thank god Stones Throw decided to produce this record...I am so happy to own anything by Dilla. His beats are legendary and inspirational, and these songs cease to break the pattern. I love all the songs, and the fact that the instrumentals are included is just an added bonus...
2007-03-21
Mind blowing!!!
Jay Dee aka J Dilla did it again. Even though this same album was released before it is better than ever. R.I.P. Dilla, you will forever be remembered as a genius and one of the greatest producers to ever live. His style can be seen through out Hip-hop now and it will be there for a long time. J Dilla single handedly made me want to produce music and become a DJ. I will always say he was the greatest and hopefully he will one day get the praise he deserves.

Raw Dilla!
I have been waiting for years to cop this joint. I heard snippets of this album over the years and after two listens, this is real fire! The $ is a classic and if y'all sleepin on Dilla's skills on the mic, then you need to stay listenin' to 50 Cent, TI or some other popcorn MC.
RIP Dilla!

I wish J Dilla was still alive. He'd be making memorable beats. These are his lesser known/unreleased pieces of work. I haven't listened to it yet, but I'm still gonna give it 5 stars.

everybody seems to be looking for Hip Hop's obituary... can't say i found that joint yet but i did run across this birth announcement for music! they named him Ruff Draft. his daddy's name is Dilla. it's really hood to see life finds a way even when death has had it's say.

I felt that a Detroit brother should have been the first to write a review. This is the sh** it was hard as hell to get on vinyl, so big up to Ma Dukes for re-releasing this classic ep. Dilla forever Sag-E

Dilla Evolved
For those who started their Dilla experience with Donuts and The Shining, this is the beginning of his evolution in this phase as a producer. Although he was taken too soon, with so many years in the game, you see that he had so much talent and reinvented so many genres many times. This man even sampled bossa nova first! This is the underappreciated ep that only real dilla fans knew of before the release. Dilla Lives.
