I would've gave it a 5/5 but I give it a 4.6/5. Why? Because Darling Nikki made the explicit stickers and I'm still upset 😭about that! But Purple Rain ☔️ made me change it to a 10/5.

Prince Rocked!!!
He left this world way too young and touched so many of us in ways we did not even realize until he left this world for the next.
All I really remember from a family trip, I was around 7, to Podunk, NY (in far upstate), is a Purple Rain poster with Prince standing there all hot and sweaty and there are sparks flying all around him. I had to sleep in my cousin's room, the one graduating from high school, and all I remember is trying to fall asleep every night with Prince staring at me. I was trying to figure out what the heck my cousin saw in this scrawny looking man that every time she walked by the poster she would give it a peck. Then a few years later I was really into Billy Joel, Boys to Men and New Kids On the Block then I understood the attraction but I never did get into kissing a poster or blowing it a kiss, too many germs without any reward. Podunk, NY is so far north that if New Yorkers do know it is there, they would swear to you that there is no such place in NY and it just does not exist because it is so backwards. I am talking like the great state of AR don't even like to admit

This album is amazing and really set Price into the rest of his career. Really changed my life with this one. One thing on the track listing though: Why the hell is Purple Rain listed as an Explicit song? The lyrics have no negative connotation at all. Its about relationships. So weird. Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life. Electric word life, it means forever & that's a mighty log time, but I'm here to tell you, there's something else...the after world. A world of never never ending happiness, you can always see the sun - day or night.

It's hard to accept that Prince left us so soon, but he would want us to accept it and live. That this opus is now over 30 years old stuns me. I remember where I was when I learned of John Lennon's passing, and the same will be true with Prince.
But he's not gone. Through his physical death, now he is with us all in the spirit of everything that holds us, and that Prince understood so well.
See you soon friend. Thank you for the gift of your music, and your gift of you.

I was 11 yrs old when this album was first on the shelf, at the time the lyrics were beyond my comprehension, but this album was a staple on my record player. Laugh if you must, but in my pre-pubescent mind this amazing artist was so far above and beyond what was typical on the radio. I have always adored Prince and his interpretation of melody. One of the best albums. EVER.

This is one of the most perfect albums of all time. From start to finish it is a timeless masterpiece. Incredible. Amazing. Fantastic. Prince at his best.
Track by Track
Let's Go Crazy: 10/10: My favorite song on the album, Just amazing.
Take Me With U: 9/10: One of the best intros on the album, good vocals, and an overall good track.
The Beautiful Ones: 9.4/10: Strongest Balled on the album, great lyrics and incredible vocals.
Computer Blue:8.6/10: Probably the weakest track on the album, but not a bad song.
Darling Nikki: 9.3/10: This is the song that brought about the Parental Advisory stickers, so thank Prince for those. Still a very good track.
When Doves Cry: 9.9/10: The most successful song from the album. The biggest song of 1984. Prince's vocals are amazing, and the guitar is awesome.
I Would Die 4 U: 10/10: What can be said about this song? It and Baby I'm a Star are two songs that cannot be played without each other. they have the greatest transition ever. Both extremly good dance tracks.
Baby I'm a Star: 10/10: The transition between this and I Would Die 4 U is just so amazing. Both fantastic songs.
Purple Rain: 100/10: Yes, this song has a 100/10. How is this possible? Listen to the song. A perfect song if there ever was one. Prince's signature song, one of the greeatest guitar solos ever, terrific vocals, it all adds up to Purple Rain.
Though I am only 14, I still know good music when I hear it, and this is good music. I would place this in the top 10 albums ever. Prince, Congratulations.

During the 1980's Prince was the simply the best. He represented funk, growing talents (The Family), and helped other bands get their starts (Shelia E.). His talent as an artist is proven here in "Purple Rain." Rated the best Sound Track in modern history, Prince continues to prove that he is the standard that funk is compared to (sorry Rick James).

Whew. "Let's Go Crazy" is like the "My Generation" of, um, my generation, only Prince captures that inchoate stutter with his always brilliant rhythm guitar. And ask me some time about how my old roommate used to bang out "Purple Rain" unaccompanied on guitar, in full voce, reminding us that: 1. the big G chord is the sound of the world triumphant, and 2. "Honey I know I know I know times are changin'" yelled at the top of the lungs in a cold apt. on the Lower East Side 10 years ago still rings true in my ears. A zillion years later and Purple Rain still rocks hard. Nary a bum moment on this one.

GREAT album. Thank you iTunes for finally adding "Purple Rain" (track 9) to the Purple Rain soundtrack! I almost bought this album last month before I noticed the ommitted track. This is a great album. Back in the day, when I was a sophmore in high school, this album first came out and it was like no other. It was argued all day long, who was better, Prince, Madonna, or Michael Jackson. You had to pick one, and I always picked Prince, soon to be know as "The artist formally know as Prince" :)

I came check this out on the day after the Supter Bowl and I had to laugh. There was only one review. I just Ignored it and downloaded the songs I wanted. I have to say however, that I believe that Prince's half - time performance is what has placed his album at #16 now, as well as driven the 23 people (including me) to post a review of this 23 year old album.
If he would have put on a mediocre show people would not be reacting so positively. I have to admit, I thought the "Purple Rain" performance was just awesome! The highlight of the entire Suprebowl ?!
Possibly. As for this album and his performance, I have to admit they both deservie 5 stars. But I'll
remember the "Purple Rain" portion of the show for as long as I live. Wish I could have been there.

Prince's best album (way, WAY better than "Sign 'O' the Times, his second best) made at his peak commercially. I have no idea why Prince refused to allow the title track until now, but better late than never. For further listening, get "17 Days", "God", "Another Lonely Christmas" and "Erotic City", the B-sides from the album, and "Jungle Love" and "The Bird" by The Time, which featured in the film.

This is the album that shot Prince into superstardom in the summer of 1984. I remember it like it was yesterday. Whenever I hear it, it takes me back to the purple fantasy world of my adolescence! It's one of those albums that is great from start to finish and has stood the test of time. Long live Prince!

I remember where I was and what I was doing the very first time I heard "When Doves Cry." I couldn't believe how tight the harmonies were, the tone of the guitar, the lack of bass. As odd as it was it was a major hit. Even my little sister bought the purple 45. It is one of those timeless recordings that you can still put on and listen to without feeling embarrased. Prince did an amazing job on this project. From the hard grinding "Darling Nikki" to the live recordings of "I would Die 4U" "Baby I'm a Star" and the classic "Purple Rain" Prince was in the zone. 1984 was the year I first got laid and this was the soundtrack to that summer.

This is one of the best soundtracks of all time

Till this day I can listen to this soundtrack and enjoy it just as much as the first time. Prince is a amazing musican and entertainer. I love how this album of only 9 songs can make such a definitive statement. It just goes to show that when it comes to good music its about quality not quantity.

I love this album, I love this Movie. Prince is at his best here on all tracks, this is the promise that the producers saw in the late 70's when they signed him. All nine tracks are Epic, I Would Die 4 U is one of my favorite underrated Prince tunes. This is the some of his best work and I am certain that we will see something execeptional from him before too long.
The emotional depth and strong musical chops are all apparent here, this album overflows with genuis. Thank you Prince, for everything, Peace.

A classic soundtrack album to a great musical from the 80's. In the future, the era will be looked back at as we do the 1940's musicals. This movie will be a considered a classic for the musical production, the melodramatic lighting and over the top acting. Sure, the movie is full of drama, but wasnt the entire 80's as well?? A great movie for a big haired/drama filled time.
You cant beat Purple Rain and I would die 4 U and even the hidden gem Take me with you for the pop/funk classics that they are.
