I'm still upset to this very day that the original double cd concept for this album didn't go as planned due to bootleggin' issues. I say he still should have left it alone. It would been a SUPER CLASSIC.

Underrated but appreciated!

Ok first off I want to say DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE THAT SAY NAS FELL OFF IN THE 90'S AFTER ILLMATIC!! The only disappointment to me was Nastradamus but besides that everything else is fire!!! Illmatic is Nas's best, but then It Was Written showed a more focused/mature Nas which is what many people do not like. Of course his second album is not going to be like his first, everyone evolves people! After It Was Written came this, "I Am..." And I will say THIS ALBUM IS AN UNDER-RATED CLASSIC. Some of Nas's greatest storytelling is on this album there are numerous songs on this album that standout to me such as N.Y. State of Mind Pt. II, Hate Me Now, Small World, Favor for a Favor, I Wanna Talk to You, We Will Survive, Nas Is Like, as well as K-I-S-S-I-N-G. Do not sleep on this album, this album is great. It may not be Illmatic, or It Was Written but it still is a great body of work and is a classic in its own way to me.

People want to criticize Nas for changing the content of this album from streets to glamor. However, the talent still shines through in this album, and is still a classic. While this may not be his BEST album, it's a must buy

A lot of people didn't like this album because it wasn't illmatic. The problem with this album is there was no quality control. Alot of the songs were amazing but some were his worst. It's funny his best lyricism on this record had terrible beats (Money is my b.tch, Small World, Ghetto prisoners) and the mediocore lyricism got all the good beats (K-I-S-S-I-N-G, Hate Me Now, You Won't see me Tonight) the only songs where he got it perfect were Nas Is Like and Favor for a Favor
Overall it's good, worth buying but not his best

It's crazy cause while everyone is dissing this album or saying this isn't his best work. In my Opinion this happens to be one of my Favorite Nas albums of all time next to It Was Written and Stillmatic, I jus purchases Life is Good today and that's an instant classic as well, Nas is still and will always be better than any new Rap Artist out now on his bad day, that jus goes to show u the talent that this man has

I'm a big fan of nasty nas and both "i am... & nastradamus" are his weakest albums. Anyways, most of da beats are either okay or just weak production str8 up. Da 3 BANGERS are: hate me now, and da premier tracks: n.y state of mind pt.2 & nas is like. Those 3 songs are "worth" da whole $15 alone. Premo always hooks up "esco" with amazin" beats. Nas is like is my favorite off da album.

I agree with alot of the postings about this album. No its not his best but folks come on a B+ from Nas is a A+ to most rappers alive or dead!!! Will it top Illmatic nah no way but will Dre top Chronic no, how about Rakim-paid in full no. 50 cent Get Rich or Dye trying hell no. People he made his best album that happenend to be his first. He is still one of the greatest MC's of all time hands down no arguing that. I would highly recommend buying the album, its def a very solid effort by Nas.

definitely a classic but not #1

This is one of Nas's weakest albums (Next to Nastradamus) Im just not feeling all the songs on this album and the beats aren't all that great. Im only feeling 4 songs off this album those being "N.Y State of mind II" "Hate me now" "Will we Survive" and "Nas is Like" but other than that im not feeling it. The Lyrics are dope in all the songs its just the beats in all the songs (except for the 4 songs i named) are kinda wack. And nobody has the right to disrespect me or put me down for my Opinion. We all may not have to agree with each other's Opinion, but we all must respect each others Opinion.

IF YOU'RE A TRUE NAS FAN, BUY THE WHOLE ALBUM, BUT I WOULD RECOMEND:
TRACK 2: N.Y. State of Mind PT. II (Pretty Good Sequel)
TRACK 3: Hate Me Now
TRACK 8: You Won't See Me Tonight (For Me it's just okay)
TRACK 13: Nas Is Like
TRACK 14: K-I-SS-I-N-G (Another okay track, has some great verses)
THESE ARE THE TRACKS THAT STANDOUT MORE TO ME I RECOMEND TO A NaS LISTENER!

After a three year departure and receiving a great deal of criticism regarding the production and musical flaws of his sophmore effort, Nas become considerably decisive regarding his third studio album; originally to be titled "I Am...Nastradamus" a conceptual double LP, and yet due to conflicting scheduling issues he make a somewhat guilty decision to release two (single-disc) albums in a consisting one year period. "I Am..." is an album that essentially reveals both Nas' imaginative quality lyricism, and his somewhat flawed approach to record them as well. The majority of the production, will be dealt with producers that Nas will forseeably work with on albums such as Stillmatic, God's Son and Street's Disciple; the production comes from producers such as Timbaland, L.E.S., Alvin West and Poke & Toke. The album starts off with a noteworthy highlight, N.Y. State of Mind Pt. 2 (a DJ Premier production), of which Nas displays a considerably disturbing look at the cruel reality at N.Y., to the tenacious Hate Me Now of which is has distorted vocals provided by the then Puff Daddy, to the excellent Small World; and where he tributes deceased M.C.'s The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac. Nas tends to express alot of duality regarding his perspective of his urban home of the projects; the album unlike It Was Written serves a conceptual purpose with Nas speaking as an unnamed protagonist, leading to his eventual downfall in the nearly perfected Undenying Love. There are many notable highlights to be heard specifically, such as one of Timbaland's most underrated upbeat productions You Won't See Me Tonight with a chorus by the now deceased Aaliyah, to potentially the best song on the album the DJ Premier produced Nas Is Like. Great Album.

I hate rap. I love true Hip Hop. I really believe that anyone who wants to learn about hip hop should buy this CD. You don't have to start with this CD but I definately feel that you should start with this CD and other hip hop artists like Deltron 3030, Talib Kwali, Mos Def, etc.
