For those who are giving a 1 star……have you listened to this album? It’s actually pretty solid
Yeah sure It’s not their best but it’s most certainly a step in the right direction
Nice job guys!

My favorites are “America Burning,” “A Symptom of being Human,” and “Hope.” Many lines of their lyrics are just so spot on! You can be woke but not awake!

Fantastic album!

Although not as good as good as the Sound of Madness, this is a very strong album. Falls in line with the last two albums as far as song structure goes. The real shinning star is the words that accompany the Music. Sums up 2020/2022 in a nutshell. They really dive in to the ever growing mental health problems that have gone into over drive to the pandemic and the relentless media peddling fear for profit and power, offered to them by the pharmaceutical companies, and the governments that are in playing along with them.
Great listen start to finish. Deep album.

Cant find a song on this album that I couldn’t get onto. Such a range of hard rock to some more mellow stuff, this album has it all. Paints a picture of what we ALL have gone through the past 2-3 years. Shinedown have outdone themselves on this record!

Thank You!

Brent, thank you so much for writing music relating to people in this world. “A Symptom
Of Being Human” related to me from the start. I’m grateful to have heard this song. It hits on point with me.
Just a word of caution to everyone- this is a political album. You have to listen to it closely, but he hints of what’s wrong in the world right now. You don’t know what side he’s on though, and that’s what makes the album even more interesting. It’s great and probably their best album yet.

It’s Shinedown, what you would expect

This album could have been Shinedown's swansong and I would have been okay with it. They've pushed all their chips in the middle with their first concept album; behind the brilliant producing of their bassist Eric Bass, Planet Zero simply brings it on every song. From Dysfunctional You to Dead Don't Die, Shinedown is proving they have a ton of creativity left in the tank.

A Strong Effort

Shinedown was a band that I used to love dearly. Their first three albums are spectacular, heartfelt, soulful, and bursting with talent. But afterward they began a steady decline into forgettable mediocrity and sellout-dom, culminating in the very poor Threat to Survival and Attention Attention albums which maybe had only 1 song each that I liked. This album does not reach the heights of Leave a Whisper, Us and Them, or Sound of Madness, but is at least an honest improvement over those previous two releases. I've found a few songs that I enjoy on here and it has a stronger sense of trying to be more than just the abysmal Imagine Dragons clone they had become for a while. Brent Smith clearly had some things he wanted to say politically here, and perhaps that was the drive he needed to actually start trying again. Maybe there's hope for this group to realign with their potential yet.

Some bangin songs, ignore the premature reviews

Everyone who rated this album less than 3 stars when only 1-3 songs had been released is delusional. These are all the people who complain about how Shinedown needs to go back to hard rock and their style from Sound of Madness and all that. To be clear, I agree and I liked that era better than a lot of their more recent stuff too. HOWEVER, this album has harder songs than Threat to Survival and ATTENTION and the hard songs bang almost just as hard as Sound of Madness.
Sure, there are some ballads and a good amount of the motivational type songs that I see fans complaining about in these reviews. But that’s honestly to be expected given the circumstances the world has been in and the message they’re trying to convey with this record. They do well with these songs and I wouldn’t say any of them are bad, they’re just different than what this fan base has grown up listening to and certainly not the hard rock Shinedown we all love.
Regardless, don’t poop all over the album when it hasn’t even been released yet. Some of my favorites after limited listens are No Sleep Tonight, Dead Don’t Die, and Clueless and Dramatic, all of which slap as hard as Sound of Madness and all of which were released on the full album release date.
Hope this mitigates some of the hate this album has been getting, this is overall a very solid record from Shinedown as I see it and a decent fraction of the songs have replay value for me.

I dont know how they do it, but they smashed my expectations again

Ive been wondering if im just falling out of love with music in general, so much stuff today just doesnt speak to me. Amaryllis was my favorite album ever, and it may have just been replaced. Planet Zero from start to finish is a masterpiece. Nobody is making music like this anymore, the variety amongst the songs, with the consistent excellence lyrically, vocally, and instrumentally. After just one listen through the album, i am confident saying this is the best album ive ever heard. Congratulations Shinedown, somehow you found a way to outdo even yourselves. And save music for me in the process.

This album is exactly what it says in the title: this album is a musical journey. From Hard Rock bangers like the titular track Planet Zero to more Pop influenced songs like Sure is Fun to emotional gut punching ballads such as Dysfunctional You (my personal favorite), Planet Zero takes it’s listener on a wild ride from beginning to end

Extremely well done

When it comes to the music itself, I really like it, although I’m not a fan of some of the lyrics in some of the songs. I’m not sure if going in a more political direction was the best idea, even if I agree with SOME of the topics in these songs. Some of these lyrics just rub me the wrong way, especially “You may be woke but you’re not awake.” I personally hate the term woke because most people use it as an insult towards those who simply want to live their lives differently. As someone who’s met many of them, there’s no harm in letting these people live the way they want to, and a few of these songs feel like they target that exact audience. I wouldn’t be very happy listening to lyrics that imply that I’m the problem when I’m simply trying to live my life, and it hurts me that one of my favorite bands of all time is going this way. Other than some of the political themes though, I do like most of the songs. Luckily I can just ignore the ones that I don’t enjoy. I also don’t care for just how many transitional songs there are in the album, it led me to believe that we were getting at least 15 full songs before the album came out. In retrospect it made sense, but it’s gonna make shuffling the album a bit more annoying

Pls just do rock

There’s only like 6 songs out of the 20 that even get close to the title (Rock), there’s like 7 just 30 second voice clips. All they do now is just inspirational pop……why. I’ve waited so long for this album 🤦

This is Shindown!

This album feels like a return to some of the stylings of earlier albums (Sound of Madness, Amaryllis, and some feels from Leave a Whisper and Us or Them). Tracks with straight forward power, arching ballads showcasing musicality and vocal range, thoughtful lyrics, and something that anyone can listen to.
This is an album that the world needs right now. Be you. Be confident. Be respectful. There are a few good things that came out of the COVID shutdown, and this is one of those special gems.

First time ever that I didn’t preorder a Shinedown album and I have no regrets. I just sampled the playlist and thanks for the memories…but no thanks! Hopefully, the listeners you’re trying to appease are very grateful because this is not the Shinedown I once knew. Your not rock anymore, your more like a Red Bull pop techno band that throws in a pretty ballad just to keep the girls smitten. Ughhhh…later.

To me from the sound of madness onwards they have been awesome I’m glad they changed they’re style from butt rock (leave a whisper and us and them) to stadium/hard rock (the sound of madness and amaryllis) to modern/soft/hard rock (threat to survival and attention attention) planet zero is looking promising to be a heavy hitter in they’re discography (and I love “The saints of violence and innuendo it’s SO GOOD)

This band NEVER disappoints. The lyrics to Planet Zero, to me, talks about the current climate of cancel culture and leadership with no integrity or morality. I don’t like when mainstream rock bands get political because it’s usually opposite of my values. Shinedown has never voiced their political opinions about which way they lean and I hope they never do. Can’t wait to hear the other 19 songs.
