They had a couple of hits about 25 years ago but now sit in the "where are they now?" pile of artists. I think they are now singing local car dealership jingles.

Wide Open Spaces is an amazing album, even nearly 20 years later. With lyrics ranging from heartbreaking to hiliarious and beautiful harmonies, this album changed country music for the better. The Dixie Chicks were a ground breaking group of musicians that transceded the country genre. Truly inspiring! Such a shame that conservatives decided to destroy them and brand them "traitors" for voicing a political opinion. Especially ironic when those same people now say absolutely hateful things about the current president but call themselves patriots. Such hypocrisy!

They don't even deserve a single star. Natalie has a nasally flat sound that is only tolerable because the other ladies have a decent sound.

By no means am I a liberal- and I STILL love them. This just proves you can love someone despite their political beliefs. Too bad all the hot-headed conservatives ruined them. I'm a conservative and they will always be one of my favorite bands of any genre.

I agree with the guy who said aren't you over that by now! That happened a long time ago so get over it! Natalie probably shouldn't have said that but can't you morons find it in your heart to forgive her? If you can't then you can stop talking about it! If you can't forgive her then leave them alone! They are an awesome band and Natalie is an awesome singer! And if you can't deal with it then shut up and don't listen to them anymore if you are such a big baby! I will always listen to them no matter what! I love the Dixie Chicks!

This album is amazing. You can't judge an album by the fact that it's singer(s) said things that should've been kept to themselves. Not to mention, aren't you all over it now? That was a long time ago and it's time to let go. Move on.

It's a shame she thought she had to be a public speaker. They're musicians, not professors or orators... SING about it, don't talk about it... Bet people would've never noticed the subtle approach. Instead she shoved it down our throats... Stupid for them.

My mom used to play all of the Dixie Chicks albums in the car when I was younger, I've always loved them & have recently started to listen to them alot again. It's so sad to see people criticize these three extremely talented musicians because they spoke their minds. I come from an extremely political, patriotic, & conservative family & while I may not have agreed with some of the comments they said I could care less because everyone is entitled to their own opinions & what they had to go through uncalled for in more ways then one. Listen to them because you like their music, don't bring your politics into it.

If the Dixie Chicks start covering Maria McKee's catalog, I might start to like them.
Their twangy version of "Am I The Only One Who Ever Felt This Way" is okay, but I prefer the original by Maria; because it is not swimming in steel pedal guitar like this version.

This is the best album the Chicks have ever put out, and it is one of the best country albums period. They go from pouring their hearts out on sorrowful ballads like "You Were Mine" and "Once You've Loved Somebody" to rocking out on the unapologetic break-up song "Let 'Er Rip" (my personal favorite). They also include a honky-tonk heartbreak ("Tonight the Heartache's On Me") and a song that's just about LIFE and finding your way in the world (title track). The excellent songwriting is complemented by an exceedingly ear-pleasing instrumental line-up. They've got the fiddles, banjos, steel guitars, the whole nine yards. I just love the banjo-pickin' instrumental solo on the title track. Every once in a while, you get an album on which everything just comes together perfectly. This is one of those albums. "Wide Open Spaces" is a highly enjoyable listen and a valuable addition to any country music collection. People just need to leave politics out of the picture and see the Dixie Chicks for the amazingly talented ladies they are.

This is the first and best selling album by the Chicks with their new singer, Natalie Maines. And we learn why they are so good. They harmonize great with each other. And they have a new twist on country songs. I don't recognize many of the songs until I hear the fiddle start playing. I love this album.

Man, talk about TALENT! I was turned on to the DIxie Chicks about 4 years ago and couldn't believe how I was moved by the lyric and instrumental talent. There is a truth to their music. What they have gone through and how they handled it, really impressed me.
I was shocked when I learned how people treated them over the Bush incident. People say things all the time. TV shows do and say worse things then they did and those shows are still running. We lost something wonderful in the music industry. I have and love every song they have ever done. Keep buying their music, your heart will be filled with every song.

I bought this on iTunes to replace the CD I lost. This is a classic as far as I am concerned. A basic need for any CD collection. The upbeat songs (even with the darker humorous lyrics) keep your feet moving. And the slow ones make you feel the pain of the singer's story. Absolutely timeless music. And I am not even a true cowgirl. Just a city girl from Dallas. (I still think this even after the "controversy") The "Chicks" just know how to make great music!

I came back from a trip to my grandpa's and heard this song wondering who these 'chicks' were. I thought they were really good (& being a player of the mandolin like Martie & player of the Dobro & lap steel like Emily I could relate). The Dixie Chicks are back with a vengeance - I have never heard music this great in all my life & that's coming from a 52 year old rocker who now loves country, all because of these girls, they have hearts the size of Texas and spirits as great as their music. I would not be surprise if they are recognized as the greatest band on Earth someday. If music had gladiators the Dixie Chicks would indeed be on top of the world * * * * *. It's been a week now since I bought their new album and I can't stop playing their songs, "Every Body Knows" is my favorite so far followed by "I'm Not Ready To Make Nice" - they are both brilliant songs but I love them all. I take the CD to work then I bring it home again ! I've gone out and bought all of their CD'S & I just fell in Love with "Wide Open Spaces" & "Cow Boy Take Me Away" - it's facinatingly great music ! Now everyone in the office wants their CD'S .I can't imagine how any fair minded person could put politics over music this great and Americans this good ! Especially when the politics these days is so full of serious mistakes - the kind that has really hurt us .
I can't wait to see them in concert.
Thanks Girls !
